Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Hello. :) I was told you wouldn't object to me joining the team even though this is a sort of temporary vintage book shop. I'm specifically dealing with a subset of my dad's estate. He collected thousands of books over his lifetime. My mom sold the paperbacks and a few collectable series to a dealer, but I have the bulk of the old hardcovers with the instructions to keep or sell as I see fit. :) It's a blast to do the research! I've got less than a dozen items actually listed, but I keep staying up WAY too late researching "just one more!". There are still several boxes waiting to crack open in my garage too! It's like Christmas! He definitely had an eye for the interesting!

I'm not new to etsy, but I am new to vintage. It's taking me a while to get the hang of pictures again. But I'm getting better at it. :)

It will probably take me a few months to get through and list everything. And it depends a bit on how many more boxes my mom finds in the nooks and crannies of her house.

Anyway, glad to be here! :)

Welcome, Dori Ann and Shannon! It's great fun to take a peek in everyone's stores here.

Dori, I sell a variety of vintage like you do over my 3 shops, but in this one I sell books, games, toys & craft supplies. Shannon, your shop is very aptly named. It looks like your Dad had quite a collection of treasures in book form. Can't wait to see what else you both will be listing!

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Thanks! I need to get my momentum back! I got a little distracted by life the last couple of weeks. Time to set up a more permanent corner to work on listings. :) I also found one that I absolutely had to read before I listed it. haha!

I'd never heard of it before, but it's a gothic horror novel for tweens about a doll haunting generations of a family. The reviews were great and it really seemed to have made an impression on everyone who'd read it as a kid in the 60s and 70s. Multi-generational story with a haunted doll set in Wales...what's not to like?? ;-) I don't know how I didn't find this one when I was a kid living at home! I'd have been all over it!

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Hi Shannon.

How very creepy...!

My cousin told a similar type of story when we were kids--a slumber party, campfire ghost kind of story. Now I wonder if she heard someone else tell this story and adapted it. Maybe she really did make it up though. We were kids in the 1980s.

I am curious about this book now. I had never heard of it before. Thanks for sharing!

Happy summer reading everyone!

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

It's fun so far. I definitely wish there was more detail. The author just sort of jumps right in and give big character generalizations without really building up to it. But, she's doing 4 generations in a short YA novel. Still...it reminds me of why I don't like short stories. ;) Just not enough there! Really, this is sort of like trying to fit a book like The Witching into a 300 page YA novel. Kind of abrupt!

The dolls name is "Dido"...so if that was part of your cousin's story, she definitely borrowed. :) This would have been in libraries in the 80s. That's where my dad got it from. They just quit printing towards the later 70s I think.

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Hello, me and my mom just started this vintage store and we recently found a treasure-trove of old books, so I thought it might be nice to join a team that had good tips and such about buying and selling old books. :3

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Hi Everybody!

I'm Yves from Belgium and collect antique books/documents/letters/invoices from 1600s to start 20th century. I find most on sunday fleamarkets here and idea is to:
1. Sell at affordable prices good quality antique ephemera/books
2. Buy more antiques with the sales made for my own collection and the shop
3. Find likeminded collectors to exchange interests

voila :)

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Happy Monday Everyone, I am a new Member and have been thrown into this Vintage and Antique market because of an Estate of a 90+ person who collected vintage for over 71 years.

I have always been interested in fine old books, I am an avid reader but not enough room in my home to store them but oh I love, love, love books.. Now I have to acquire knowledge for the shop I opened on Etsy to sell off the many things of value I am finding hence my shop BYGONERA at Etsy of course.

I am hoping to meet some very knowledgeable people here and some sleuths as well, and pray I may ask questions which my research seemingly cannot answer.

Thank you for inviting new members. OH and one initial first question, How do I include the VBTEAM TAG?

Have a happy day!

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Hi there... I have 2 shops on ETSY that sell vintage books...GyanarthiBooks and GyanarthiBookAnnex. The second shop stocks only books. Gyanarthibooks offers gems, minerals, jewelry, and vintage memorabilia as well as books. I've had brick and mortar book shops over the years, and listed with other services in the past. I like ETSY a lot, and I'm pleased to join this group.

Lots of new team members and wonderful new shops!:) I just wanted to say welcome to everyone! I know we all can learn so much from each other, older and newer sellers alike....

To Mitts from Bygonera:
the VBTEAM tag can be added to all vintage books and ephemera in the tags section of your listings.

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Heyya folks,
Thought I'd introduce myself. I've been a bookseller for 23 years, both bricks & mortar and in various online venues. I'm a generalist, though I'm finding myself more specialized in recent years.

My Etsy stock is small at the moment, but I intend to add to it.

That said, is there a quicker way to get my eBay stock listed on Etsy, or do I need to list them one at a time?

Thanks!
O

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the team and just wanted to introduce myself. I have had my shop opened for a little over the year and sell mainly vintage books, but also have lots of various antiques. I collect old books, newspapers, and documents, mainly from the 19th century/Civil War. I love going around to auctions, antique shops, thrift stores, and flea markets to scrounge for treasures from the past.

Please visit my shop to see some of the items I have to offer! I usually list a new item every day. I look forward to being a part of this team of etsy members who share my appreciation for vintage books!

Stop by Antique Decor any time and say hello!

Hello all. I run Ruby Apple Vintage on etsy. I adore vintage books, have 30+ listed and 100 more to go. Books are not an easy sell on etsy, so it certainly is a labor of love. I sell other vintage items as well, a serious ADD collection of random things! Please do come and say hello. I'm off to browse your shops!

Re: New Member--Please Introduce Yourself

Hi, my name is Angie and I recently opened my book shop on Etsy after selling on eBay for around a year. I really like how easy it is to list on Etsy and I'm enjoying reading some of the community posts about marketing, etc.

My shop consists of rare, vintage, and antiquarian items with a special focus on the fields of science, medicine, and natural history. Currently I also have a selection of genealogy reference books that I am selling on consignment, as well as a small inventory of classic literature.

Please feel free to like my facebook page as well! facebook.com/coseyrarebooks
