Gypsy Vanner

I have owned horses since I was 12 years old (and that's a long time!). I started out with a Saddlebred, Whiskey, whom was so versatile that when we moved and all my friends had quarter horses, I "turned" him into a sporting horse! He won at almost every western sportings event in which he was entered, from pole-bending to barrels. Of course, I've slowed down alot and now, although Whiskey is no longer with us, I mainly just trail ride.
The other day, I saw a Gypsy Vanner, and fell in love with these horses. Anyone out there know of any breeders?

Re: Gypsy Vanner

There is a breeder out of Florida, but I am not personally familiar with them. There is also a larger, "draftier" version called Gypsy Drum horses. They are fantastic- great temperments, level headed, trainable, and personable.

Re: Gypsy Vanner

It should be easy to find breeders. There is at least one here in California. There is one where I board, but he is used mostly for "I have a Gypsy Vanner. Isn't he beautiful?" At least someone is paid for his care and does it. Carriage drivers like them, but I don't know anyone in our club that has one. I prefer a pony for driving. Eat less, poop less.

Re: Gypsy Vanner

OMG!!! I'm brand new here, but Gypsy Vanners are my "to die for" horse! They wouldn't do well here in Az. with all the cacti and things that could stick in their feathers and tale, but they are sooooo georgous. I have mustang geldings, a Spanish Barb, and a warmblood mare. I also have a herd of Chinese Crested dogs, who look like little canine Gypsy Vanners!
Don't know of any breeders, but there are a lot of ads for them in the equestrian zines.
