It stays there until etsy removes it or the customer removes it. I can't remember if etsy has a time limit something can stay in your cart. They do send reminders to folks.

It doesn't really matter if they have it in their cart. It doesn't stop anyone from buying it if they want it.

I'm thinking it stays there until they either buy it or remove it.

Four people had one of my items in their cart, then poof, they were all gone all at once.  I suspect they all received a reminder from Etsy and they just remove it instead of purchasing

I think you're right, some people have some of my items in their carts and have had them there for a while.

Funny thing, one just sold that was in 3 peoples' carts.  Ya snooze, ya lose. :)

Best wishes,

Until they either buy it or remove it.

I've seen comments that indicate some people think these notices will dissuade people from buying.   But, in my experience, I've found it to be the opposite.   That people see someone else has it in their cart and it encourages them to buy it right away instead of waiting, because they worry it will get snatched up by someone else.

Is there any way to tell how long it has been in their cart?

Thanks everyone! I was worried that it would block other peeps from buying. Good to know it WON'T!

I guess i just got the new feature ( well... new to me anyway) where it shows in red that item is in cart under my thumbnail pic.

@Lionfishvintage 16 people can have the same item in their cart- but it doesn't take it off your shelves :) I do believe what Gathering Charms said- increases the urgency to purchase if you really want it!

I didn't know sellers could 'see' items in a cart. I usually put items in cart ready to buy and when Ebates offers more than 1% I buy--last night it was 3% and I spent just over 100.

@MoiraRiver--sellers can "see" it is in a cart but have no access to who that person might be.
