It seems like there should be a single thread where team members could just gather and catch up with eachother about nothing in particular. It's nice to have other threads to discuss a particular topic, but would also be nice to have a thread where you could go to see who's around at that moment.
You know, like a never-ending, continuously running thread.
Thoughts?
Yay! You finally got someone to respond and help! New person, or a previous person?
I have 3 different browsers on hand (though I only use Safari daily) just to check out tests from different vantage points when things get a little crazy in Etsyland. It's useful! I love Chrome for the image search! @Lionfishvintage
Gotta admit guys...I just don't trust my knowledge of computers so I play it safe (and empty the piggy jar) and just buy a new laptop about every 3-4 years. I'm petrified of losing my data. Color me 'out of date'. Very best of luck to you Lion.
I wouldn't say you are out of date. Just the opposite if you get a new puter every 3-4 yrs.
I"M the one who is out of date.
I'm too freakin cheap to buy a new one. MIne is 9 yrs old!! Ack...
But mine is slowly dying
I don't see the red warning banner on chrome so that works for now! thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah the computer guy is one who helped me before and he finally got back to me and apologized .
Hope everyone is doing well.
And remember :
"Ripping off your mask when U get home is the new taking off ur bra."
( sign at El Arroyo restaurant)
HaHaaaaaa I love that one Lion.
Confession...I only wear my bra when I leave the house!
Dear Mrs. Mary: I learned there is a device called USB flash drive to store information from the computer. If the computer suffers any kind of malfunction, all of our work is safe in that very small object. It is like an electronic file cabinet which contains all of the carbon copies we put in it.
Since my last laptop crashed when I was doing office work at home and had to buy a new laptop, I've started doing regular data backup. I first used a USB pen drive and then changed to use an external hard drive for more space.
I don't have a habit of doing the backup "regularly" though, should do it more often.
I had a laptop that lasted 12 years. I had to switch the mouse action to left handed as one side of the mouse pad didn't work anymore, and it was slow as molasses but I was still impressed. It was a Dell which was bought by HP. Then I had one that died in just under 3 years. It over heated regularly. It was a Lenovo. I prefer a desk computer but I take what's given to me and am thankful I have a computer to use at all. I'd go even more crazy without one.
@Darcy777 I had a Lenovo before I think, crashed it while doing office work at home, I was working crazy at that time.
I used to prefer a proper desk workstation but have grown to like laptops now =]
Just a friendly reminder. I know it's a hassle, but I'd back up important digital stuff, like the most important images, various data, passwords and IDs, on 3 different thumbdrives and/or the cloud. Then have one of those thumbdrives off location, like parents, adult children, siblings, house.
I don't have family so I only have a backup separate from my computer.
I have a notebook with my site/Id/email/password, so that others can close my accounts, or get access, in case I'm in the hospital or some such thing.
@Lionfishvintage Hi Lion! Every time we go over to El Arroyo, I ask who makes up the signs? They are cagey about it.... The big secret in Austin, I guess. How are you doing?
Is the news telling the truth that Lake Tahoe South has been saved?
Ha ha - I think El Arroyo wont' tell cause their afraid it might be a person who doesn't like a sign and wants to start a fight!!
The El arroyo is on my bucket list.
What's it like living in Austin?
Hippieville? Cause if it is i wanna move there.
Yes!! Tahoe was spared and people are slowly moving back.
The air quality is still back but not as bad as it was.
Have you ever been there?
The water is unbelievable blue.
Although peeps are worried the ash falling has affected the water ecology. Time will tell.
@collecteddust @Lionfishvintage I just went google for El Arroyo, interesting =]
I always wonder about the Google doodles, would be amazing to have such a fun job creating them.
@Darcy777 I am always so impressed by your computer knowledge. Where did you learn all that stuff?
i hope you are doing okay. Have you been cooking a lot lately? Please take care.
@collecteddust I went to trade school for computer/electronics technician. I didn't realize I had a learning disability, I thought I was just stupid, and how much it would impact me, along with the fatigue. Although I got a degree, I ended up only getting jobs people off the street could get, in electronic businesses. But, I got to use computers at work, and owned one, and so I guess that helped. Then the very last time I got laid off and just couldn't summon the energy to job hunt. I also ran out of electronic places to work, they keep laying off, being bought out and moving to Texas, and going out of business. I had no idea when I first started that journey how precarious electronics was. I thought since electronics were in everything, I had made a smart choice. I wish I had managed to go into programming instead. I could have created my own apps, worked free-lance, until I couldn't work anymore, which would have been longer in that case, if I could have worked from home, in the end. After my first electronics job, after being laid off, down sized, (some people think laid off means fired but they are different) my next job was part time bagging groceries. Paying off that student loan was a pain, considering how bad the job market was in my area, at least. I didn't have the energy nor the money, to find a second chance career.
@Darcy777 You know more about computers than I will ever know - I was one of the last holdouts in the family and I still am a bit uncertain how to use its many uses. Maybe you could post a "tip of the day"for folks like me.
That is so great!!!
Now that I tested that one bread loaf recipe, I want to make a full loaf. Hoped to today but it was a worthless day. Also that headache plagued me. Not sure if it's the newish supplement I'm taking or not but that's the only supplement that helps with my fatigue. I'll skip it tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully I'll manage to make that loaf. I have deli meat so that would make an easy meal.
I'm glad the bread recipe worked out for you.
School season. Let us remember to leave home earlier in order do not drive behind the school buses.
Speaking of school / kids.
Had a strange thing happen the other day. Was driving slowly on a little street in my neighborhood. 2 little girls about 9 or 10 yrs old, stepped out into the middle of street and stopped there . They were waving me down to stop. Of course i did thinking they were in some kind of trouble.
When i stopped, ( they were also blocking my way) they started laughing and ran up their driveway.
I don't think kids should be doing this. Ya know, playing tricks on people.
Should i just forget it or try to find out who the parents are and talk to them?
They may have done this to other people too.
I know kids will be kids so maybe im over reacting?
Wow, that is crazy.
If the parents aren't even watching their kids, I don't know if it will make a difference to talk them about the dangerous game their kids are playing.
I have been to California on several occasions , but never to Lake Tahoe - it sounds like it was such a gorgeou place to visit.
About Austin. Back in the 60s, it was very laid back and "hippy-ish....especially out on the "drag" out by UT. and South Austin, Alas it is no more. All tall buildings and a community of computer people. Every now and then you'll see one of the old "Keep Austin Weird " signs. Kind of sad!
