It seems like there should be a single thread where team members could just gather and catch up with eachother about nothing in particular.  It's nice to have other threads to discuss a particular topic, but would also be nice to have a thread where you could go to see who's around at that moment.

You know, like a never-ending, continuously running thread.

Thoughts?

Yes, I just now got the 2 emails I mentioned above--funds sent to bank and a shipping label created--and yes, that was about a 2 hours ago.

Today, someone looked at my baby picture and said:

"You were such a cute baby.  I can't believe that I'm looking at the same person now as I'm seeing in this picture."

Should I feel insulted?  Because I feel insulted.  :(

@pigeonplumtree . that sounds like a left handed compliment to me. but maybe they meant it to mean something other than how it came out, like they can't believe you could be as cute now as you were as a baby? how well do you know the person?

@pigeonplumtree The thing is they have no clue, they don't seem to know, it's like they are lack of that ability to understand it or maybe they just don't care or too arrogant to care about being annoyinig and rude or hurting people's feeling.

They probably unearthed a pandora's box!  I'm sure that once they started ripping things apart everything began falling apart.  Is your building old?

@pigeonplumtree . this was a motel built in 1970, a few years after the tsunami. this was the weekly rate kitchette building. the regular motel section was torched in 2001 as a condemned building as practice for the firefighters. it smoldered for months. the deck, however, was not built in 1970 it was an add on later, and they may not have had enough permits. so basically we are looking at them gutting and bringing it up to code one unit at a time. it was just supposed to be fix the deck in may. but they found rot going in past the deck. it was supposedly 8 feet in. that became whole front room, 3 lower units. then they found trouble with the upstairs, 2 feet in. i suspect it also is whole front room, at least right over us... so they have to put in new floors, ceilings, carpets, walls, wainscotting, light fixtures, etc. neighbor finally got ventian blinds, the last unit to get them, because they had to replace her entire front wall. it has really been an ordeal and we've been here for all of it.

That's interesting.  Is the layout of the suites sort of motel looking in a way?  Or was that all changed when it was converted?

@pigeonplumtree . the main part of the motel was a delapidated two story entity on one side with a one story row on the other, 19 units and the magager's apartment. the weekly rate building, ie this one, looked like an old western building with a deck that has open stairs. they put siding on it several years ago and just replaced that this year so it looks less old now. it has a flat roof and is pretty plain really. the venetian blinds replaced the old motel stained ill fitting curtains that were very ugly. they took our window sills out and just sort of left the windows recessed, if that makes sense. the only thing anybody notices about this building is its location relative to the mexican restaurant. ;)  this is a no frills building. no landscaping, no yards, no laundry, nothing. neighbor has nurtured an old yellow rose for almost 18 years. that they leave alone when they weed whack.

@Artbesico . shadow got the shower rod up in under 5 minutes. showoff! lol. he's tall.

i took the defective old one and wrapped paper towels around the ends and put it up in the closet to hang a ruffled curtain to hide the hideous water heater that takes up half of the closet. took me 7 tries! why, you may ask, did they put a huge water heater in the closet? because they replaced all the old little ones that used to live out of the way next to the stoves with giant monstrosities because 1970's ones are no longer made now, and the only place with room was to steal half of our bedroom closets. some units got to keep their bars but not this one. each back room has 2 closets. they used to be two full closets. now each back room has one full closet, the size of a bathtub, and one closet with a big ugly water tank that sticks out on half of it...

so now it gives the optic illusion that it's just a window with a closed curtain. ;) it also cuts off whatever bug bait that someone had put next to the water heater where it will never be able to be removed. i slept better.

i'm waiting onthe clothing drying rack due any minute. to save the laundry will require it.

we are not allowed to have anything outside like laundry drying. sigh. so it is all indoors and on doors and cabinets. so i ordered a heavy duty rack that claims it can even hold blankets to dry... we shall see!

i lost 2 more bags of cloth objects yesterday. our old apt. really was that moldy. :( i saved the purple things in the tub. those i was not giving up without a fight.
