Seems to me that we could use a forum area where we can go to support each other during this global emergency. Possibly calm our fears and offer emotional support and share ideas on how we are each coping. If you choose to participate I can only hope that we will all refrain from sharing unfounded/unsupported information and even provide on-line resources/examples that have historically proven honest and sound... such as, for example, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) etc. Just thinking out loud here. I need to talk about this sometimes and talking with folks around the world who are "like minded" would be so very valuable.

My current concern is the lack of physical connection to other humans. We are very social animals and when we are truly alone it is crucial that we recognize that the lack of physical contact can be detrimental to our mental and emotional health. This can compromise our physical health too. Oh dear; here I go finding something more to worry about...

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

@WarmWeenies  We all should boycott every establishment which does not comply with safe measurements!!!

Also, neighbors.

@ElizabethRosenArt  When I saw the large groups of protesters in the news, and large gatherings -some unmasked- in parks, beaches, so on,  I thought, "There are going to be a lot of new cases in a couple of weeks."

So many many here in Kansas NOT wearing masks...those yahoos! Well starting this Friday the 3rd it will be REQUIRED mask wearing in all establishments and outside where distancing is not possible.

To all those ignorant stubborn peoples that don't wear a mask...'up your nose with a rubber hose'. Blessings.

@SewNSewSister   Our state now  is mandated to wear masks--and no--they WON'T comply--instead of wearing the mask they want to recall the governor!

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

So, this is becoming more 'normal' and digestible as shops are opening in NYC. I had to go into a Japanese bead store in Manhattan today as I'm so very low on go-to beads. Buying beads online just isn't the same as holding them and seeing them. They had it down to a science, though only open a week. Door is locked. When one customer leaves, another comes in (3 shoppers at a time in a tiny store) and they are handed a pair of plastic gloves and a tray. I was really wondering how a bead store- where you touch everything would handle this! It was so normal so quickly. We were all masked and gloved, Enya was playing, and the shop smelled fantastic. Was there for an hour, and came out feeling like, we can do this! The shopping experience wasn't really altered much except for having to ask what material some things were as I couldn't actually touch them without gloves. Bought some beautiful beads I thought were wood, but are plastic. Very pretty plastic! That might sound like extreme shop management to some, but I was glad for it, and can do this until we don't need to anymore! It's becoming very interesting to see how every individual business is handling things. Many are getting very creative. We're behind most of you in reopening- so this is all very very new!

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

Hello to all ~ I wish I could remember where I saw the statistics for the vaccine. I was  disheartened by the news.

Seems like they are looking at the end of the year for delivery and then it may not be enough. The article also gave details about who would get it first and then the "whopper " came ~ the price per person would be $2-3,000. Of course with the "news " today, that could all change in a minute.

Continuing to hunker down. Just hoping to see and touch my Grandson again some day. Not expecting resolutions anytime soon so I won't be disappointed at spending the holidays alone this year... just expecting to.

...and add one more negative situation to the situation. Now, there is a new swine flu in China. The flu is in the pigs, but it jumps to the humans. Do we need more sicknesses?

Hi Margaret, would love to read that article if you remember where you saw it! Do you remember from the 'who would get it first' part if it would be the higher risk people? In all honesty, not sure I would want to be one of the first even if it cost $1! A little more time to see what the side effects are would be my pref. @collecteddust

ana, that is awful. poor pigs. warm, i hope you can see him. can't you just wear a mask?

dusty, yikes! ok, i said for months i think this was a created bioweapon that got loose but... whatif it was an attempt at a horror in order to price gouge people for the, 'cure', later? i still believe it was manmade and released by accident, but...

didn't that other price gouging vaccine guy go to jail? skrilling or something like that?

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

Just to post for those who are thinking somewhere in the back of their minds about a vacation to Florida & the Mouse, or the beaches, whatever. DO NOT Come To Florida. On June 20th the State had 93,797 cases. Today Florida set a record of 11,458 New Cases.
Florida now has a total of 190,052 Covid-19 Cases. Yes, in two weeks time the number has doubled & it seems there is no end in sight.

While the State/Governor has not mandated masks, some local governments have. Beaches on much of the east coast closed this weekend and who knows what will happen in the future. The Mouse scheduled to open in stages, on the 11th & the 15th, but I wouldn't be putting an bets on that plan.

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

@JMOldeVintage

I prefer Universal Studios to the mouse but I guess I won't be visiting there anytime soon either.  I also have a bunch of family in Florida.  So far, so good but I'm really concerned.  Please be safe and careful.

Hot double d**n I miss shopping and eating out. My SS check is lasting longer these days.. so that's something. I'm trying to see a little brightness in this mess.

JMOlde, what's "the Mouse"?

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

@WarmWeenies - The Mouse is Disney World. The overall park here in Florida has the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom & Hollywood Studios. Now myself I prefer "the real Florida", the State Parks & other natural areas. But h*ck some of those areas now invaded by pythons!

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

@ElizabethRosenArt - Yes, today Florida almost tied New York State's worse day for the number of cases. Our local news would sort of imply, "oh look what city living does" referencing NYC during the onset of the virus. Now we as a State should be hanging our heads in shame.
We're lucky being relatively rural with horses, goats & a donkey or two for neighbors. Our bird visitors range from sand hill cranes, to turkey, hummingbirds & many of the usual suspects such as wrens & cardinals.
And yes, our ss checks lasting longer but as it gets hotter outside we've taken to planning trips that we will hopefully be able to venture out on when things get much safer & we don't have to download the "are Floridians welcome?" app.

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

There's an app for that? @JMOldeVintage I guess there's an app for everything. Yes, earlier on NYers exiting to Florida were not especially welcome and had to quarantine. Now this state is imposing same restrictions. It would be dreadful if things reverted back. Glad you are in a more rural area with wonderful animals for neighbors (emphasis on neigh :))  Just keep being safe and you should be fine. It's becoming so easy and second nature to do, I wish everyone would just comply and help get this sucker under control.

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

This is in response to some of the forum comments about how touchy (and wounded) people are. I really experienced that today- but it ended well :)) My flea market in Woodstock, NY opened today and I came up from Brooklyn to go. Too many months without a flea! Catching up with all of my favorite people there. Was relaying a story to 2 vendors that involved a FB friend who had moved from a liberal little town to the the country recently. She had the only family masked at all times there, and wore her mask to a local hay seller (she had moved to a little farm). Masked every two weeks when she arrived, the older gent finally said to her, y'know- this virus isn't real and was invented by liberals to get Trump out of office.

Just at that moment a woman walking behind me heard that sentence and pounced on me screaming I object to that statement!!! We had to calm her down, and tell her I was just recounting someone else's conversation! The end of the original story was, my friend then turned to the older gent and said, the whole world is dying from this- certainly US liberals have nothing to do with that, and he paused and said... oh, I hadn't thought about that. (!!!)

It turned out the woman who exploded had a younger brother in his 40s that had died of the virus and she was admittedly very sensitive!! We all talked for an hour after that- if I could have hugged her I would have. But wow! It was scary for a moment. I've never had anyone in my face like that before.

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

@ElizabethRosenArt   I know you posted this a few days ago but that country attitude is the same here.

And I asked that exact same question of someone about the virus and got the same answer as your friend (y'know- this virus isn't real and was invented by liberals to get Trump out of office. )  and I then asked the same--"What about the rest of the world? "  And the answer I got was "the rest of the world is just collatirable damage!"

UNBELIEVEABLE

Re: Covid-19 Support Community

@ElizabethRosenArt   Not only that--it makes me actually afraid to wear a mask for fear of being attacked by someone who thinks I am making a political statement (not) instead of just protecting myself and others from what I happen to believe is real.

I don't know which scares me the worse--the virus or the some of the people who live around me!
