'Bopa' here under another guise.
Thought I'd get a general chat thread rolling ... while we wait for the 'big chop'.
Shall we get our knitting needles out - like the women who surrounded the guillotine?! (seems very etsyesque!)
Shall look out the magazine, sounds interesting Baban. My mother made Welsh Cakes last week, but they are too ruinous so I just popped in to see her - eat 3 - and walked home with the dogs to try and work it off...lol..
Yay so the boys DID win on Saturday! I have put just a couple of pics up of the game on my blog of anyone fancies seeing the boys in action! http://whatsadiedid.blogspot.com/ It was so funny because Wales were definitely outnumbered by Irish in the stands but they were all very pleasant afterwards saying congratulations :)
I want some Welsh cakes! But i daren't make any as my bf is going away and it will be just me eating them!! haha.
And Baban that article sounds fantastic - well done! :)
I nearly come back from London with my chocolate cake and Welsh cakes. My daughter - the one that lives and works in London - was waiting for me at South Kensington underground and not High Street Kensington! She then had to get on a bus because the Circle and District lines were closed. I could have sent you all a few! That's the first and last time I'm going on an organised coach trip. It was the journey from hell back to Wales because some of them were steaming nasty drunks! I was so glad to get home.
Although I was born in London and didn't come to Wales until I was 49, I feel this complete feeling of relief when I come back across the bridge and home to Wales!!!...my heart is here and always has been...I HATE going to London...or even England....it just doesn't seem the same somehow...
Quite honestly after some of the behaviour shown by people on our trip there were moments when I was ashamed to be Welsh. They even made a scene at breakfast because the staff wouldn't open the bar. Apart from that, the show was brilliant. I got to meet my daughter's new boyfriend who is lovely and I bought three books that I needed. When I came home I checked my convos and a lovely lady in Australia has put a custom order in for a blanket for her new baby who is due in five weeks. Overall it was a successful weekend despite being cooped up for hours on a coach with drunks.
I haven't made welsh cakes in years, you've wet my appetite now, I'll have to make a batch. I used to make them every week when I first moved to the States as there was a video store around the corner from me and the owner's grandmother was welsh, he said he hadn't eaten welsh cakes since she passed away and no-one in the family could make them.
Glad to hear Wales won. Sorry to hear you had some rowdies on the bus trip Baban, and that your train stops were mixed up. When my mam visited in June she inadvertently got left at the mall at 10.30 at night ;) I thought she said she was walking around with my sister who was also visiting, when in fact she said she'd come home with me. As I strided ahead to the car, she didn't think to shout out for me to hold on. Anyway, to make a long story short, she knocked on the window of the Crate and Barrel store and mouthed "I'm lost...I've lost my family"...One of the employees was nice enough to drive her back to my house once she'd figured out where I live. That's a story the family will laugh about for many years... I listed a new pair of earrings tonight and they've made a treasurey...yeah! here it is: http://www.etsy.com/treasury/MTY5MzY4NjN8ODYwNTc5NDEw/favorite-newly-listed-items-oct-10-2011?index=...
Good morning everyone, what a dank and dreary day this is..... sorry about the 'company' on the coach Baban, it can spoil everything.
Talking about Welshcakes....yum....I make mine on my g.g.grandmothers bakestone. It's exceedingly old and well worn, but thick as can be. We have a wood burning stove in the snug and it has a hot plate on the top and a small oven (which I have never used) and when the fire is going in the winter I like to make the most of it and cook welshcakes!!!
My hubby and I are off to France on Thursday, but I will have access to a computer whilst I am there. My daughter Laura will be busy making in my absence and I am madly trying to cut out enough for her to keep her going whilst I am away. I don't let her near our fabric.....she's too wasteful!! I'm taking my crochet and wool with me and will spend my time down there crocheting like fury....Laura has given me my orders!!!!
Oh no - a bus full of drunks sounds quite horrendous!! My sister and I got the bus to London last time I was home (January) and the air con was messed up, it kept blowing hot then freezing. Well you should have seen my sister's face - a 3 hour bus journey nearly killed her! I said to her that after flying 28 hours NZ- UK so many times a 3 hour bus journey is a walk in the park for me! She wasn't impressed! haha.
How lovely that you are off to Francr Cwtch! Whereabouts? My bf left last night to go to Nantes for a week for work. And i'm stuck in NZ with a stinking cold! Pah!
Hi everyone. Long time no see. You have all been busy! I am becoming pretty adept at 'speed reading' - frantically trying to keep up with all your activity! Nice work everyone. Love the Santa cartoon Brenda. And congrats on the magazine article Baban. Hopefully it will lead to lots of custom orders (then you can buy a new cat!!!). I'm afraid I haven't been spending much time on etsy of late. Views and sales have been the lowest I have ever known them to be since I first started selling here. September was the absolute pits!! I have had to resort to selling on the other 'E' site - where sales have been very very brisk. So it can't be the economy - as we are constantly being told. Something is very much amiss in Etsyland. My items have been scoring high in relevancy searches but I still haven't been able to garner many sales when compared with my sales earlier this year. I'm at a loss to comprehend it.
i hope you are all faring better! If nothing else, I always feel more cheerful after visiting this thread! Off to crack open my Strawberry and Lime Cider now. Nos Da.
P.S Hope you're soon feeling better Sadie. I can recommend the medicinal properties of Strawberry and Lime Cider!!
Hope your cold improves Sadie. Hubby and I (and the 2 dogs) are off to the Languedoc region of France, near a very old Medieval Walled City called Carcassonne. It's a long drive after we get off the ferry in St. Malo...9 hours!!! The dogs hate the kennels on the ferry and I find the whole journey pretty stressful. Still, it will be nice to have a break. Kim
Hope you're feeling better Sadie, dose up on spicy chai tea.
CwtchBugs, your vacation sounds right up my alley. I'm writing a novel based in part on some of my grans experiences during WWII and in part giving her the love story she never had, the story is told through the eyes of the man who has his sights set on my gran. He sees some action in St. Malo during the Battle for France in 1940. I did a lot of research into that area, would like to go there in person some day.
Sounds interesting Lamplighter.....St. Malo is a lovely old City. I especially love the Intra Muros areas which is all walled. We stay overnight there before we catch the ferry back in the morning and I love walking the dogs around all the little alleyways and streets.
I will bring some wine back for everyone...for our 'virtual' party!!! lol
