First off, I want to say thank you so much for all the overwhelming support from everyone today! It was amazing to log in and find over 200 “events” in my shop’s log from all the favorites! Thank you for all your kind words and the favorites. This team is seriously awesome.
I’m always bad with talking about myself, but I’ll give it a try. I’ve always been interested in repurposing items and salvaging stuff that would otherwise be dumped in the trash. I am fascinated by reusing and finding new uses for old and unusual items instead of buying mainstream materials. Although the things I make can be a little odd and different, I like that they’re more unique if I’m using unusual materials. I also love reusing materials because it has a better “green story” and is better for the environment than always buying new. I always try to reuse everything at least once or twice around my home before it gets recycled or dumped in the trash, which I try to translate into new items for my shop.
Although I’ve always liked making stuff for birthday and Christmas gifts, I really got the crafting bug after my wedding where I was a DIY-queen and made everything I could. This helped me discover my love for paper-crafting and making cards and envelopes and even a little home décor. I’m always trying new methods and crafting mediums and really can’t stick to just one thing or I end up getting bored with it. I’ve only recently started making jewelry but I am completely hooked on jewelry making lately and I’m really enjoying it (even though I don’t really wear jewelry myself).
For all of my crafting, I’m completely self-taught and learn from Googling tutorials, YouTube, and Pinterest and then just have a lot of patience and practice. My day job, I’m a full time Intern Architect (went to school for my Bachelor’s and have been working in an office since 2007, but I’m not licensed yet). I have an awesome husband, two cats (one of which is a monster huge cat), and five chickens. Sometimes it’s really tough to juggle a full time job with a 45-minute commute each way, Etsy shops (this and my destash/supplies shop), and normal life stuff, but it’s really a challenge that’s worthwhile. It’s really fun to work on transforming my hobby into a small business, especially because it helps give me motivation to learn new skills and it’s always awesome when I get positive feedback or when people buy my handcrafted goodies. I’m not really sure what else to add, but that’s pretty much me in a nutshell (whew I wrote a lot more than I planned...).
