Motivational Thread

Need some motivation? Some energy and push to get something done? Post here!! Let's help each other out! = )

_______________________________________________________________

My main thing is working out and eating healthy. Well, I eat pretty healthy, but tend to snack late, especially with my husband since he gets home later in the evenings from work.

I need motivation to stop eating after 7pm and working out regularly, at least 4-5 times a week!

Re: Motivational Thread

Hey Jacque, try brushing your teeth or chewing mint gum. Helps!

Thanks for being a positive leader!

Re: Motivational Thread

Jacque---love, love, your shop!

My health goals are much the same as yours, Jacque. I've started walking every night; I think that will help with everything . It gives me more energy to focus on all my goals

Thanks for the chewing gum tip, Katie Joy. I'll try it tonight.

I'm going for a more structured schedule in my shop. Days to create, days to photo and list new items, hours I'm going to devote to my shop. I know life would be easier if I can do this---and I can.

Re: Motivational Thread

Thank you, thank you Linda!!

And yes, I agree! I need to be a little more structured as well. Some days I feel the urge to create in the afternoon. But some days (like today), I've had the itch in the evening.

I'm intrigued by the cake mascara. I'm going to have to give it a try when my current one is running out. I'm a thrifty New Englander and hate to throw anything out until it's used up.

Re: Motivational Thread

I need some words of encouragement and some genuine advice. How do I get my sales up? I have so many views and interest but how do I convert that into sales? Am I too expensive?

Re: Motivational Thread

Katie, here is what I honestly think:

RAISE YOUR PRICES! Your shop appears to be more upscale, although you may not be working with solid gold or rare precious metals, I do think you have room to raise your prices a few dollars!

I'd also work on all your titles. The first 3 words are most important with regard to being found in searches both on Etsy and through search engines.

For example:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/95106924/uyj-brown-silk-ribbon-ruffle-pearl

Nobody is going to be looking for UYJ Brown Silk....But they will be looking for Silk Ribbon Necklace. You don't want your titles to be just a mash of words. In this shop and my other shop, I have a way that I like to word every listing:

Simple What / More Details - Scent (Other What) so for say a bar of soap, I do:

Shea Butter Soap / Handcrafted Body Bar - Oatmeal, Milk & Honey
or
Etsy Sales Tracker / Organizer - Customizable Excel / Printable PDF

Look at your shop as a buyer. What would you search for if you were looking for your items? Also play around with your photos to get a more cohesive looking shop. You want to create a certain vibe when people "walk in". Search the top jewelry sellers to see what they're doing and what kind of ideas can you pull from their shops to improve your own.

Keep it up! You're doing quite well! It took me a month and a half just to get my first sale here!

Re: Motivational Thread

Oy...I need a serious kick in the pants or something...:)

I don't know how people do an successful Etsy shop and a day job...forget about kids. My day job is running me into the ground lately and I have had no motivation to work on my Etsy shop.

The catch 22 is that I really want my Etsy shop to replace my day job, but I'm not sure if it's going to be possible at this rate. I am starting to think the only way to really give this a shot is to quit my job and devote all of my time to making a go of this....too bad I can't really do that right now...:)

uggg...just sort of venting....

Re: Motivational Thread

hehe the most exercise I'm getting is waddling from the front of the house to the back when I get out of bed ;)

I'll be getting stuck back into it once Squish is out in the world and I'm feeling up to it though.

The one thing I'm struggling with at the moment is the motivation to do much else other than play games and work on the shop. I have things to do for bubs arrival but really just can't be arsed... anyone want to give me some tips on where find my motivation?

TOTALLY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!! I couldn't take it anymore before I quit. But I suggest to pay off your bills, as much debt as you can, save as much as you can, and bulk up on supplies before quitting.

I had an action plan, but quit before completing my plan. = D

Re: Motivational Thread

I am working on my pictures to make them more uniformed as suggested.. I have done about 50% of them so far. Updating pictures is really slow!

Having a new baby is so exciting.. but it will be hard work! I haven't had children, yet, but for 7 years I voulnteered in a nursery for 0 - 4 year olds, I was so good at it I became the head of the nursery. We had sooo many babies and I watched them grow up to little toddlers before they left for school. I had nicknames for some of the intriquing characters.

One girl I nicknamed 'speedy.' As a baby she would crawl at the quickest pace I ever seen. When she was walking, she was running. Gorgeous little happy girl though, and she did wear you out.

One baby I nicknamed 'The Godfather' because each time he arrived, the little chap would pull a plastic chair into the middle of the play room, sit in it and watch. LOL!

I could go on and on about them all.. but I would be here all day!

Re: Motivational Thread

For my weight loss friends I am reading Beat Sugar Addiction Now! by Jacob Teitelbaum. Really interesting and fast read and most importantly for me, intuitive. Never considered myself a sugar addict but man, I sure am, about three different ways. I have cut it out for about two weeks and i have to say that the difference in amazing! Here is the link if anyone is interested.

Re: Motivational Thread

There are times I want to hit other peoples children......

My boyfriend has a really noisy neighbour living above him. The first time we all moved in (I only go there on the weekends but helped them move in) it was a bit of a shocker. Me and my boyfriend were watching TV, exhausted after unpacking etc.And then sudennly we heard and felt this 'Boom boom boom boom'. It was so loud and at a consistant beat we thought the pub next door was having a techno night. Was only until after my boyfriend came back from investigating, we discovered that is was our neighbour above us running on his jogging machine! This was around 11.30 pm.

They also have two small boys, who run around the flat and it almost seems like they are running wearing iron boots. They are so loud. We have got sort of used to it, but having the boys run around at 11.30 at night is ridiculous. The boyfriend tried to ask them to stop the noise, but the parents said 'what can they do, they are only children?' My response to that was,' Be parents and tell them to stop running indoors!'

They also drag their furniture around...

But anyway, those are the children I want to hurt... lol unfair really since it is their parents fault!

Re: Motivational Thread

Oh I am one of those obnoxious parents who parent everyone else's kids if they dont do it. I dont even bat an eyelash at telling some kid to knock it off or watch their mouth, Apparently I am scary enough that they listen. Perhaps its my edgy unpredictable personality. I blame that on my own kids. The teenage years aged me at least 20 years. Sigh.

Re: Motivational Thread

That is a brillant idea! Seriously, if any of you had to live there with them above you.... you'll all be bald and have holes punched into the ceiling where you were banging your broom stick!

Re: Motivational Thread

Oh Katie I have been there dont that. I hate apartment/flat living. And I did this with 3 kids at one time and my neighbors only knew I had kids because they used to collect golf balls that ended up on the grounds (we lived off a golf course) and sell them. LOL entrepreneurs at a young age.
