Testing New Fragrances!

Oh my word! I just feel like it is crazy to add new candles! I have to make sure the wick will work in the exact same container as it works in others, however, it can change with every scent!

It's just crazy! I feel like I spend a lot of front to make sure that it will be perfect and test and test and test. But, I guess the upside is then I know, right?

Then my candles will be perfect! Does anyone else get this crazy crazy feeling when they are testing everything?

Re: Testing New Fragrances!

I really do. It's very tricky with perfumes too. All fragrance oils react different on the body when they sort of heat up. (I guess you would have that in candles with temperature issues too? It's also an issue when making bath salts due to water temperature.) It never fails that something will smell amazing in the bottle, I'll get super excited, and after thirty minutes of wearing it, it will smell like a library book or something. Once I was making bath salts a couple of weeks ago and then tested them and for some reason when it hit the water, it smelled just like bug spray. I had already crawled in before dumping them in too. I couldn't get the smell off all day. I had loads of stuff sitting around to test too that I haven't had time to get too yet. It's always interesting. I always test everything a couple of times before selling it to be sure there aren't any issues.

Re: Testing New Fragrances!

Oh, how funny! I can't imagine having to test everything I make on my own body. I just know my husband thinks it is absolutely hysterical how many partially burned candles we have.

I do love having so many around the apartment though :). I just have to make sure that I keep scrupulous notes in order to make sure that I don't have to retest! I would like to say maybe eventually I'll have all of the scents down, but I have so much fun order new fragrances it's hard to stop!

I know, same here. I know which oils hold up well in perfumes. There are just so many new ones to try that I can't resist buying them. :)

I go through the same thing with my candle making. Test, test and test. And I must confess also, I have a fragrance oil addiction. Hahaha! There are just so many great ones out there and I have so many I have yet to test but i just had to have them. Haha!

Re: Testing New Fragrances!

I do that with CP soap, fragrances can change so much!! Sometimes you think it will work well, but after 6 weeks, your kinda thinking...hmm.. lol Thankfully for the most part, I've only had that happen 2 times and that was with your not so average fragrances.

Re: Testing New Fragrances!

For some reason every time I can't get a fragrance to work in perfume, it makes awesome soap. It's weird how it works, but at least I still get some use out of it.

Re: Testing New Fragrances!

I'm doing the same thing with testing. It's nuts! LOL I have to keep telling myself I'm providing great candles and they are perfected for a reason for my maddness. Now I just wish more sales would come in so I can test more!

Re: Testing New Fragrances!

I hear ya. I'm still waiting for the sales to roll in too. It's picked up this month it seems like, especially the past week or two. Not as much as I would like though. I HATE my day job. I wanted to make a living at this. Maybe someday though.

Re: Testing New Fragrances!

I want to make a living on this as well. Right now my fiance and I make enough money where this is all just extra cash, but I hope I can just do this some day. I love making candles so much.
I feel sad when I go a day without doing something candle related!
