Using FACEBOOK to increase business

By now it's no secret that Facebook can help get you exposure and lead to sales but social media is a balance of business, marketing and human interaction. Below are some of the tips I've run across to to use Facebook to grow our business.

Please feel free to add and comment.

Tip 1
80% of your posts should be social and interactive but still related to your business
20% should be product promotion

I really agree with this. I look at FB pages and if all I see are product, I don't follow that page. I can see that in a shop - show me something else to connect with.

The second tip for using FB for business:

Respond quickly to people who post on your page...

I know I like to have it acknowledged that I visited someone's page and took the time to leave a comment. It takes no time to hit the like button to let someone know you saw what they had to say. After All, that's the reason we have the page.

Respond to all posts within 24 hours!

The next Facebook Tip

Keep your posts pithy.

You want short, concise posts - most of the time with a graphic. Every once in a while a lengthy post is fine because it's unexpected.

Tip #4

Be careful what you ask for:

Yes, you want people to like your Facebook page - but you want them to want to like your page because they are more likely to engage your page and that's what spreads you to the newsfeed.

Fewer fans who will spread your page are better than a bunch of fans who don't.

I want people to like my page because it's their idea and I tend to avoid the 'follow me and i'll follow you back' because I want to be free to not like a page .
When it comes to page fan - organic is better.

Your thoughts?

Tip # 5
Engage your fans by asking questions and including enticing posts.

I have a hard time with this one. I post different things and then track what catches the attention and what doesn't. I have very few comments on posts but I can see what types of posts get spread around by the number of people reached and engagement and that leads me to find more of the same to continue to post.

So, I am learning the engagement thing but the comment thing is still very much a work in progress.

Sharing your friends work is also a good way to get the attention of people. Their friends comment on your share and they may stick around to look at your page. Also, the items you've shared, usually get the owner to return the favor.

Join Facebook groups where your target market hangs out.

It's fun to be in groups where people do what I do but I also need to find those people I want as customers to see what their needs and trends are. It's a fine line, though, and there has to be a genuine interest and not just trolling for dollars.
