Is there a secret to turning views into sales.

Nope. Sales come from having a product that people want and being able to get it in front of them so they can buy it. Advertising, networking, pricing.... it all plays a part.

That's a short-hand version but yes. You must create something something that people want and work to get it out there so that people know about its existence.

And after awhile, you will be able to create a ratio of views to sales, and be able to get a better handle on how your changes affect your sales. Personally, I would say if you are just starting out, watching the views wwill drive you bonkers. If I could go back, I would spend all the time I spent watching views and trying to figure out why they stayed views, on working on my pics, and honing my skills and improving my product. The stats can literally drive you crazy....

Yes! So many times, I will get a sale with only 8 views for the entire day! Love those days, because it's a reminder that it just takes one person to want one thing that you have....

Also the more products you have in your shop, the more likely a sale will happen. The analogy I had heard was if you walk into a B&M store, if it had only 10 things on the shelf versus if it had hundreds, what the likelihood there was for you to buy from them and how the store appears to you.

The more you have to sell the more likely you are to be found. My belief is that you should aim for at least 100 to be found, unless you are very lucky.

Don't worry about changes in views or sales day to day, even week to week or month to month. Forget about favourites. They are nice to have but too variable to mean much. Concentrate on building up your stock, refining listings and improving SEO.

I'm now in my third year of running this shop and only now do I think I have enough data on views and sales to get a measure of what is going on. I can now for example look at trends in the views to sales ratio and when I do I find I get almost twice as much income for a given number of views as I did 2 years ago, so I seem to be doing something right.

It took a bit of digging in the various downloads available to extract the data, but now I have it set up, it is fairly quick to keep up to date. There are several articles available from the Sellers Handbook with advice.
