locking jump rings?

Has anyone used locking jump rings? I've read mixed reviews on these but I am curious to see if there is something better than an oval ring or split ring for charms. Is there a brand you would recommend?

I haven't, but I was thinking of doing some keychains and would also be interested in hearing from people who have used them.

Re: locking jump rings?

I use locking jump rings all the time especially in hard to reach places where soldering is very difficult. They are great but once locked, if you try to undo them it's very difficult and then you'll leave marks because of the force required to undo them. I'd say they are VERY sturdy! 18g is my preference.

Re: locking jump rings?

Are they sterling? What type do you use? Is there a specific brand or supply source for these that you would care to share? Thanks!

Sounds interesting. Who is selling those?

Re: locking jump rings?

Sorry, I missed this thread in my forums update. I use sterling and gold filled ones. They are found everywhere but I really trust/like an Etsy seller that sells them.

Here is a link https://www.etsy.com/listing/61695708/4-sterling-silver-10mm-14-gauge-locking?ref=shop_home_active&g...

They sell difference sizes and materials.

Re: locking jump rings?

I love Oakhill too, but thought I'd throw an off-Etsy supplier out there :)

Beadaholique has a ton of locking jump rings, and also closed ones. And they're having a sale this weekend. :)

Re: locking jump rings?

I'm being dumb but aren't those just regular jump rings? They are just hard tempered so they stay in place. That's what I usually look for when buying jump rings.

Re: locking jump rings?

Diane some regular jump rings will open over time, the difference is that they actually lock closed and will not open as traditional jump rings tend to do based on wear and stress. The bad thing is, once your hear the locking sound as they close you'll more likely damage the metal if you try to reopen.
