I'm in the market to buy a day lamp to help make my pictures look more professional. I'd like to have a smaller lamp as my fabric covered button items are fairly small. Any ideas on where to purchase or a certain brand name, store, etc.?

I've heard Ott Lites are great but they are really spendy also. I try to use as much natural light as I can and then I edit them using Fotofuze and Photoscape. Both of them are free.
I have a light box but still my background seems gray and not as white as it is in real life. I use the morning sunlight too. I'm sure I just need to make a few adjustments. I use Picasa now but I'm going to check out Fotofuze and Photoscape. Thanks very much.
Ott lights are nice but not very bright (to me anyhow). They do sell ott light bulbs that fit standard lamps (I have 3+ of them) They are expensive but not as bad as buying a whole lamp :)
Try looking into your "white balance' on your camera. Adjusting that can help with that gray/ yellow look you can get on your white background.
I'm mostly nocturnal so I have to shoot in artificial light. I just use a cheap lamp base from Target with a daylight light bulb from Home Depot with a piece of tracing paper as the diffuser...
