Knotting Stretch Bracelets

Can someone tell me a sure fire way to knot a stretch bracelet? No matter what knot I use, they pull apart before I can glue them. I'm playing with 1m Stretch Magic; is 1m too big for knotting? And if so, what is it used for? I feel like an idiot because I've been messing with this for a looong time. PLEASE HELP! Thanks

Re: Knotting Stretch Bracelets

have you tried a square knot?

Or maybe try not cutting your ends until the glue has set?

Just a couple ideas to try. Hope they work :O)

Re: Knotting Stretch Bracelets

You can also try a surgeon's know as well as a square knot. You can also use a little dab of glue to add strength to the knot. Good luck!

Re: Knotting Stretch Bracelets

I've found that making 3 knots tends to help especially if you choose not to use an adhesive on the cord. Knot once, using any strong double lace knot, where the 2 cords meet then pass each end back through the beads to the left & right of the 1st knot. Then make any type of locking single lace knot after those beads, feed the elastic ends through one more bead on each side before snipping off the extra. Never clip any cording matterial flush to a knot, always leave a "tail" of at least 1/4 of an inch (about 6mm), this way if the knot slips there is some more stringing material for the knot to grip onto.

Re: Knotting Stretch Bracelets

I have used 1mm knotted for bracelets quite a bit.
I tie multiple knots & then snug the knot inside a bead. No glue.
This method has worked really well for me.
Don't cut flush.

Re: Knotting Stretch Bracelets

I like to make an overhand knot first, then maybe a square knot on top or another overhand knot if it seems it needs more security.

Tying 1mm IS tough. Maybe try the .7mm and see if it is easier for you.

After I make the overhand knot, I like to use jewelry glue (a tiny drop), like Beadalon's Bead Stringing Glue. Don't use superglue or anything like that! It will burn through the rubber.

Re: Knotting Stretch Bracelets

When dealing with stretchy cord, I like to tie it to a small bead, and then hide that small bead under a metal bead cap, or another bead if the whole is big enough.

Re: Knotting Stretch Bracelets

I appreciate all the insight about the knotting of the material, but I'm also looking for a good stretch product for stringing.

What stretch-y product do you all recommend? I've tried several and they seemed too cheap and my concern is that they will break and not stand the test of time, especially with large heavy beads.
