DSLR Camera Help

Hi Everyone I have the Canon T2i and am having an issue.
Whenever I take a close up picture of jewelry, the front image is blurred while the further back image is crisp. This is exactly the opposite of what I want. I have googled but have had little luck. Anyone have any advice or ideas on how I can fix this?
Thanks :)

Re: DSLR Camera Help

What is the distance is your lens (in mm)? I'm wondering if it can focus close enough to begin with. (hopefully! If not you can try a macro filter for not too much money)

You don't mention what lens and settings you're using, but you are likely too close to the item you're shooting; try backing off a bit until you see the piece in focus.

Re: DSLR Camera Help

i use two lenses one is a macro lens and the other is a .025m//0,8ft :)
Does this have something to do with the point of focus perhaps or even the kind of metering I might be using?

Re: DSLR Camera Help

Are you shooting in auto? If you shoot in manual or one of the aperture or shutter priority modes you will be able to pick your focus point.

Re: DSLR Camera Help

When you shoot in auto the camera picks the focus point and not necessarily on the thing you want to focus on.

Re: DSLR Camera Help

When shooting in automatic, make sure you press the button half way down to focus before you take the photo. If it is not focusing on the main subject, then you are too close to the subject.

What kind of macro lens are you using? If you're using a 50mm to 60mm lens, you still have to be a good 3 to 4 inches away from the subject in order for the camera to focus.

You can also set your dial to the little flower (macro setting) to see if that helps.

I don't have a slr but I believe that "depth of field" is what you need to adjust and if you play with the aperture settings you may come up with the correct adjustment.

This is an excellent place for photography tips.

Re: DSLR Camera Help

it gets tricky to make a sharp picture if the background and the item do have similar colors, or if the item is very delicate and has not much volume compare to the background.
than the automatic allways will focus on the biggest "item", in this case the background and sharpens also the back of the item.

try to change the angle from where you take the pick.
take one item and play with it. make pics in different light, from different highness etc. write down after each pic how you taked the pic.
and than look

That sounds like the minimum focal distance in .8ft, or about 10". That means it cannot focus any closer than 10 inches. Could you try backing off a bit and seeing if the front comes into focus. Also pay attention to where the camera is doing the focusing. It's usually shown as a little square in the viewfinder.
