Does anyone use a cup bur attachment with their flex shaft to round ear wires? I want to round 20 gauge ear wires, but I am torn about getting a cup bur with an inside diameter of 1.2 or 1.4... can you see any advantage to either of these sizes for 20 gauge wire?
I was wondering if there was an advantage to going slightly bigger inner diameter so you could kind of "swirl" the ear wire around in the cup. (Hope this makes sense! Maybe I should have just asked which inside diameter cup bur do you use for rounding 20 gauge ear wires!?!)
I think I remember that you're supposed to use the cup that most closely matches the size of your wire. I prefer to just use a file, couple of swipes and it's done. ...now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not even sure where my cup burs are....
I'm with khmetalwork I use a file. It's fast and I prefer having tools that are multi-purpose instead of alot of specialized tools. 20 gauge is so easy to round off with a file and of course I use the same file to make the other end of the ear wire flush. I think a file is faster to use than changing the burs on my flex shaft.
I'm another one who just uses a file to round my earrings ends. I did use bur cups for awhile, but honestly it's just as fast to do it with a file and cheaper in the long run.
I'm in the file camp as well. But.... Cup burrs have their place. rounding prong tips or wire ends in tight places. They are one of those tools that is cheap enough to have a set on hand for when the AHA! light goes off in your noggin needing to finish that funky hard to reach tip you want nice and round.
