Hi,
for all those that have been following, I now have my shop back, .... yeah, thank you all.
however, I don't have the answer to my question I originally asked - and I am a bit reluctant to ask the helpdesk again.
etsy says they will send a code to your phone, but can you do it to landline, or just a mobile?
normally, if you put in a mobile number starting 0751
if you want it international, you normally drop the first zero from a normal phone number, so is it
+44751
however, etsy handbook says one thing, and etsy support e-mail say another, I never did get the chance to add it, but now my shop is back, I want to put it in, and I really don't want to get it wrong
Is there anyone in the UK that has done this, and how did you format the first bit?
I would prefer landline if anyone has done this
Thank you
Heather
I just sent them my mobile number and they text through the four digits. I always keep my phone with me when on my computer . Glad your sorted now.
Thank you,
The reason I hadn't done it before, is I log in from home, and I have no mobile signal where I live.
however, with the backup codes, you can get round that, if you set it up in the first place, where there is a mobile signal, internet ....... and tea and cake
Can you please tell me how you were you able to set it up to text? I gave my mobile number and the verification code comes via a phone call. I prefer text. I'm probably just missing something but am not seeing or reading how I can set to text vs. an actual phone call.
@AmoreTreasure There's 3 different options
authenticator app, text message or phone.
You click the toggle next to the one you want to use. You want Text Message, not Phone (which is a call)
@CappuccinoLace - Thank you!!! LOL, I looked at it again and it gives the option "SMS" which I overlooked before. Had to google it because, well, old. If there is anyone else out there that didn't know, it stands for "Short Message Service, and it's the most common form of text messaging used today."
So glad to see you up and running again CraftyCornishMaids and that everything is resolved now since Etsy got on the case properly from yesterday! I'm sure you could have done without the problem, but tea/coffee and cakes, and a lovely trip to the beach cafe always help the process:) You can breathe a sigh of relief and relax now!
Glad to see things were finally sorted out for you. :- )
My understanding is that it will call the number that you sent up to receive two factor authentication.
"You can receive the verification code on an authenticator app or through calls or texts to your phone. When providing your phone number for two-factor authentication, you agree for Etsy to send you a verification code through calls or texts. You may opt-out of Etsy using or edit your phone number by going to your Account Settings. Charges from your phone or text carrier may apply." How to Make Your Account More Secure – Etsy Help
Frankly I want them to add email as that is easier for me.
E-mail would have been easier for me too,
but I bit the bullet this time
The issue is, if they are trying to hack your account, they may have your email...
hence why it's on devices a hacker won't likely have access to.
That's exactly it. Some banks and building societies send you a text to your phone to enable access to your account.
So glad to see you back, and thankfully it did not take too long!
I think the codes are single use, so you may have to cross them off when you use them. I think you can generate a new set before you run out, from memory there's a button to generate new codes, and I expect it will also make the old codes invalid.
The 2FA is only used occasionally, mainly when logging in from a new device or browser / app, and when accessing secure areas of your profile. I suspect that clearing cookies will probably reset it too, but I am not risking any unnecessary testing of Etsy security features.

Happy to hear that you got your shop back!
We appreciate everyone's feedback, and since OP's question has already been answered (and their shop reinstated - yay!), I'll go ahead and close this thread to prevent it from going off-topic.
Thanks, y'all!
