Hi,
for all those that have been following, I now have my shop back, .... yeah, thank you all.
however, I don't have the answer to my question I originally asked - and I am a bit reluctant to ask the helpdesk again.
etsy says they will send a code to your phone, but can you do it to landline, or just a mobile?
normally, if you put in a mobile number starting 0751
if you want it international, you normally drop the first zero from a normal phone number, so is it
+44751
however, etsy handbook says one thing, and etsy support e-mail say another, I never did get the chance to add it, but now my shop is back, I want to put it in, and I really don't want to get it wrong
Is there anyone in the UK that has done this, and how did you format the first bit?
I would prefer landline if anyone has done this
Thank you
Heather
Thank you all,
I went to the beach cafe, with my laptop, and mobile phone, as it has internet, and a mobile phone signal (and chocolate cake and tea)
The +44751.... worked,
I used the sms option, they text you a code to use, to verify, before the setup is complete, so if you do put the wrong number in, or mess up the +44 thing, you won't be locking yourself out.
and you get "backup codes" for when you don't have a mobile,
and that worked too, as I tried it when I came home
Whew!!!!!! hope to have a relaxing rest of the day - I've some jug covers to crochet.
I think the codes are single use, so you may have to cross them off when you use them. I think you can generate a new set before you run out, from memory there's a button to generate new codes, and I expect it will also make the old codes invalid.
The 2FA is only used occasionally, mainly when logging in from a new device or browser / app, and when accessing secure areas of your profile. I suspect that clearing cookies will probably reset it too, but I am not risking any unnecessary testing of Etsy security features.

I can't answer your question, but am so relieved your shop is back!
I logged in to my security tab on Etsy to check it, but can’t see the number there. I don’t remember what format I used (I set it up ages ago), but I guess if you put “+” instead of “0” and it turns out to be incorrect then you won’t be able to save the number.
Thank you,
It might be the case, but with the problems I have, I didn't want to be locked out again
So happy your back up and running, as for your question, i would of thought it would be your mobile number as they would text you the verification number, but i might be wrong.
Thank you,
It's good to be back to "normal"
it's the format
my mobile starts 0751, but as it's an international number, I would have thought I'd start it with +44
but then I don't know whether to drop the leading 0, of the number, like you do with a landline.
Etsy said put 044-075... but I don't think that's right
... I'm rubbish with anything to do with mobiles
normally its just 44, but thats a bit confusing when Etsy is saying something different, so really not sure, sorry .
One more thing @CraftyCornishMaids, once you set up your 2 factor authentication, make sure to print out backup codes (you can generate them under security section), you can use them any time if you don’t have an access to your mobile.
Thank you, that would be very handy
@CraftyCornishMaids it should just be +44 ( UK code ) drop the first O then the rest of your number . It's to a mobile as they send a text , with the code which you then use to log in with.
Uk shops please correct me if I have this wrong its been a while since I set this up myself
Good to see you back x
OK, it's what I thought, I'm going to give it a go, I could be some time sorting out a signal, and a dash back to the house.
and for clarification this is why
I would think as others have said drop the 0, but I'm very wary of recommending anything to do with Etsy, as they always seem to have their own way of doing things.
@CraftyCornishMaids Just set it up, it needs to be +447 etc
It's great to see you are up and running again, THANKS to thatregina. So nice to see that she is still here to help as it should be.
Welcome back! I use two-factor authorization/authentication and I’d suggest having a pen and paper handy when the call comes in. They run through the code so fast and only once that I’ve had to scribble the code at light speed to keep up.
Great to see you back up and running again, as others have said, normally for UK mobiles it would be +447 - take out the leading zero.

so good to have you back so quickly Heather!
Based on your experience, I think I should probably set up two step verification too. But I don't seem to able to find where to do it.
@Arcalliq account settings under your profile, not under shop manager.
and then security.
Welcome back!
It’ll be the chocolate cake and tea that helped you get through this.
A lesson to us all - one must never be short of either tea or cake.
@CappuccinoLace a-ha! That's why I could not find it!
Thank you so much. Now done!
Thank you
So glad it seems to have all worked out!
