This is not the helpline. It’s the sellers’ forum.
We are only other sellers here.
The Star Seller lists three categories. But really there are more. A shop needs to make a minimum profit as well. It may be beneficial to read the information about how calculations are done. It is located in the sellers dashboard under the Star Seller tab.
The program is very simplistic. It is not always a true reflection of offering strong customer service due to how calculations are done. Nor does it effect a search system at this time. My shop floats in and out of it due to offering in-person deliveries and receiving a very few 4 star positive reviews. It has not made any difference with sales or traffic. It is far more important to focus on giving very good customer service and selling quality products regardless of a program. Etsy itself has not been able to manage offering decent customer support. So it is expected that they aren't yet able to develop a successful program for it. On a positive note, Etsy shared they are planning to improve in this area and allocating funds to do so. Hopefully the Star Program will change as they develop in this area too.
In addition to shipping with tracking, 95% of 5-Star reviews, and 95% of messages answered promptly, a seller must also have at least 10 orders and $300 U.S. to qualify. It can be hard for small shops to meet those last two metrics for Star Seller.
it's hard for shops outside the US to meet the shipping with tracking metric too. The whole SSP is a joke
You can see your ss status in your dashboard, don't get too much stressed about it, most shops on Etsy don't have it and they are doing well.
from the dashboard, click on star seller
you can then download the csv's , to see which ones etsy does not think you shipped on time with tracking, or did not answer the message in time.
If you believe some of them are wrong on the CSV, you need to report it to Etsy - from the dashboard - community and help - contact us - keep going until you get to "I still need help" and you can log a call/support ticket
.....
with the tracking issue, etsy is rubbish with Royal Mail, so you may need to screenshot the Royal mail tracking, for each one that is wrong, and get them to manually change it - right pain in the backside
I have had many phone conversations with Etsy about Star Seller issues. - Trying to explain how Star Seller cannot work to support customers or business for UK sellers. We have nearly 13k sales and 100% positive feedback for service and message response. We do all overseas post tracked. But we do not do tracked for UK internal post because most of our UK sales are in the £10 - £20 bracket. We all know that end to end tracking for UK internal post is about £7. We have a flat fee for posting that many customers take advantage of - they buy lots of items for one total postage. cost. But many still buy just one item - and a tracked package would mean they pay much more for the post than the item. If we insisted that UK customers pay for tracking we would lose most of our UK sales. The burden Etsy takes on in supporting selles who have problems or have difficulty understanding how to make it all work is huge and must be respected - . But with sellers such as ourselves who are making a very large number of sales successfully (paying considerable fees to Etsy) and getting 100% positive feedback surely Etsy should not defer to an algorithm for Star Seller data status. While not achieving Stat Seller apparently makes no difference for customers coming to a shop, some may wonder why with nearly 13k sales a shop is not a star seller. Again if it makes no difference then why have the badge at all? Please Etsy get rid of this pointless programme!
Unfortunately it works for most USA sellers,
the fact is doesn't work in the UK, or with Royal Mail (and you wouldn't have thought of that - even in your worst nightmares) - and not only doesn't it work, but it's a stupid thing to do,
it cuts no ice with etsy
Our Royal Mail is great, we get cover up to £20 plus postage for non delivery, withOUT tracking, stuff arrives next day, it's cheap postage compared to tracked, - and who has the time to track anyway, when it arrives next day.
Completely useless and a waste of time - but we are UK, and don't count
I did give my feedback on the star seller programme - it looks like that disappears into thin air too.
@MaryartGB Can't help with the SSB thing, but I strongly suggest that you insert policies in your shop (based on where you are located.)
