spam on etsy and fake buyers...

I have just re-opened my shop after a long time either shut or stagnant... I have only just begun listing things but from the first days of re-opening I got some emails asking to buy my 'item'... obviously spam since they didn't refer to anything I had for sale. 

Now I've had a message in etsy (as well as an email) asking me to verify my bank account or my account would be suspended. When I went to click on the link in the etsy message I got a window warning me I was leaving etsy...

This all sounds suspicious to me.

Has anyone had anything similar?

Real messages from Etsy are now going into their own section (labeled as "From Etsy") on your Messages page https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-From-Etsy-section-in-Messages/m-p/143722497#M1899 but apparently this is only true when using a browser.

"Has anyone had anything similar?" If you do a little research in this forum you will see many others who are experiencing the same issue as well as many suggestions.

Be sure to mark the Message(s) as SPAM so that they do not affect your stats.

do not give anyone your e-mail

If the message is not ALSO in the "From Etsy" folder, it's not from Etsy

mark as spam

If the message does NOT appear in your "From Etsy" folder on message page then it is a scam - mark as SPAM and then forget about it.

If this message is showing on these scams, new shops need to be warned about "leaving Etsy".  I know it should ring a lot of bells but maybe it isn't something they think they should worry about.

if you click a link in the message on etsy, you will get a warning

however, if you are reading the e-mail, in your e-mail, it will depend on your e-mail provider and what you have set up there

a forums search for spam brings up 10,000!! posts.  so yes, lots of people have had this too.

Thanks guys. I haven't noticed a 'From Etsy' folder but I will now look and mark all the rest as spam.
