spam messages or buying process

Hello Etsy fam, just 2 minutes after publishing my first listing today, I received a message from someone. The message stated that they had paid and I needed to click on a link to accept the money. However, my order list was empty, and there were no visitors to my store. How did they purchase the product without navigating through my store? How did they buy it without clicking on the listing, and where did they send the money? If they sent the money, why isn't it showing in my earnings? Due to these uncertainties, I marked it as spam because Etsy Payments was not used. After that, I received a message from the Etsy Support team. The message stated, 'Your product has been purchased, and the payment has been made. Please provide your email details.' I request clarification of these uncertainties and appropriate action. Are you in trouble something like issues?

Re: spam messages or buying process

Yes its a scam, if they want you to click on anything or have you send your email (which they already have) its not legit. If they claim they are Etsy, in your message box there is a From Etsy place if its not from there its a scam when they say Etsy Staff, ETsy Stuff etc. all scams. If you fell they would ask for proof of your acct. namely your CC # and bank # and then clean you out.

Re: spam messages or buying process

(I just posted the following in another Thread with the same issue)

Many of these idiot scammers are impersonating Etsy Support/Staff/Assistant, etc. They are trying to get you to click onto the email. Do not engage with them, ever. Mark the Message as Spam, just so you don't get dinged for Star Seller. Should you receive a Message from Etsy Staff/Support, etc. it will come in the "From Etsy" Folder (if it isn't there, it's a scam).  Here is the Announcement about the "From Etsy" Folder (currently it is in past Announcements).
https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-From-Etsy-section-in-Messages/m-p/143722497#M1899

Also, there are scammers Messaging Sellers saying they need your email for a sale.  They don't; Etsy already has it.  When you have an Order, it will appear in  "Orders & Shipping" Page (Left Column in Shop Dashboard).  If it isn't there, you have no order.

Re: spam messages or buying process

I am in the same situation as you.

I am intrigued that the email from where it is sent is: conversations@mail.etsy.com and the message has etsy written above the name, but it does not appear in the "etsy" inbox but in the "others" inbox and when I gave it "yes", it asked me for bank details.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Re: spam messages or buying process

@Nikoltiendaecologica  No, that is not from Etsy! Scammers have been impersonating Etsy Support/Staff/Assistant, etc. ; all kinds of FAKE Names. Do not engage with these fools! They are trying to get your bank details so they can clean out your account! Mark the Message as Spam (just for Star Seller, so you don't get dinged).  If the Message did NOT come in "From Etsy" Folder, it is NOT a LEGIT Etsy Support/Staff, etc.

For the love of mike, this needs to stop! I honestly don't see why scammers who blatantly impersonate Etsy Support can't be wiped out at the start.

Re: spam messages or buying process

@Nikoltiendaecologica when a buyer sends you a message on Etsy, you automatically get that message sent to your email inbox as a notification that you have a message on Etsy (unless you have turned notifications off). That's why the email address appeared to come from Etsy, but the message contained within was from a scammer. You

Genuine messages from Etsy will appear in the 'from Etsy' folder in your Etsy message inbox (in your shop manager).

Re: spam messages or buying process

These are SCAMS. @Nikoltiendaecologica Anyone can create  bogus fake email making it appear as if it's from etsy. All communications from etsy will be in your "from etsy" section of your inbox.

Etsy doesn't need your "bank details"; you provided them when you opened your shop! This is a SCAM to drain your bank account.

Re: spam messages or buying process

Did you not see a pop up on the message page that if a message was from Etsy it would be in the "FROM ETSY" section on the message page?
If it's NOT there it's NOT from Etsy.

If you have 0 orders showing, you did not have a sale.

You also should have had a light orange BOX warning right on the message section about these scams.
BUT if you clicked "OK I got it" without reading the info, then you won't see it again.

There's plenty of info on the help pages about getting paid here.
A MUST read for any new seller before they ever open a shop.

There's nothing that states on the help pages that you have to send Etsy or a buyer your email, your bank/CC info etc to get paid.
Etsy has YOUR email, a buyer never needs it.
This is a scam to STEAL your money.

Re: spam messages or buying process

@VMetaDgtals @Nikoltiendaecologica : It is NOT an order - real orders will show up on your Orders & Shipping page and your Payments page.

It is a SCAM - you might want to read the excellent post by @bradgoodell  in https://community.etsy.com/t5/Managing-Your-Shop/How-to-Spot-a-Scam-No-a-Buyer-Doesn-t-Need-Your-Ema... and https://community.etsy.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Why-do-they-ask-me-for-my-e-mail-in-order-to-make-a-p...

There is also official information from Etsy at https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000343128-How-to-Handle-Spam-and-Suspicious-Messages?segm...

Real messages from Etsy are now going into their own section on your messages page https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-From-Etsy-section-in-Messages/m-p/143722497#M1899

If you have not already done so, you may want to read https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015710308-What-to-Do-After-You-Sell-an-Item?segment=selli... for an overview how orders work for sellers.

Be sure to mark the message as SPAM so that it does not affect your stats.

Betreff: spam messages or buying process

I frequently get “Etsy Support“ messages like this:

[This content has been removed by Moderation. We ask that you please review Section 1, Item 1 of our Community Policies before posting in the Forums.]

I’m fed up with it and I wonder why Etsy let this happen so often.

Wack a mole, Scammers send out lots of these targeting new sellers mainly eager for a sale and not familiar with how Etsy works. They can be live for just a little while and then get shut down, but if they have scammed someone or got several emails  in a short time it was worth it.

Re: spam messages or buying process

I have received two emails so far and internal messages that are supposedly from Etsy. I do not think either one is legit. They want my email address which Etsy already has. The return address seems somewhat legitimate to but I still have not answered and this most recent one came saying someone had bought a product that just went live. But the address is out of the country and I am set up to only accept United States orders. I hesitate to write to Etsy about it and at one point I could see a link on my laptop that showed actual messages from Etsy but that seems to have disappeared.  I will look for it again but I do not think either of these are legitimate. I also show no orders for this item that just went live. I am a brand new shop and still building my listings so I have not had any sales to date. It seems very fishy.

@FireflyMtnSundries

SCAM.

You have no order unless it appears under the "Orders & Delivery" section of your Shop Dashboard.
