Since last year. I notice every time I edit an item or add and item or click on my items, a picture of it appears and above it is states "because you viewed".
Now this is quite confusing because I don't get why ETSY wants to remind me that I viewed MY item. duh. I didn't view it. I added it or edited it.
Then all similar items appear enticing me to purchase one???
Can anyone tell me why Etsy is doing this?
The note appears on the top of my home page.
Thanks.
HIGHLY COLLECTABLE
Just ignore it
It’s done that for a while now. I’m as baffled as you are. eBay never asks if I want to purchase my items or ones similar to them… There’s nothing you can do about it though. My best guess is the algorithm on Etsy is just set to add any item you view to your recently viewed items which pops it up there on the home page. Etsy’s algorithm seems to have no way to differentiate between a seller’s own items and ones they were actually shopping.
And, when you are actually shopping for something, they show you the same 'similar' listings over and over, when there are probably 50 to 100 listings for the thing that you are looking for.
I was looking for a particular type of vintage brooch, and they show me the same five brooches day after day.
If you are editing some of your items, the next day they all show up.
Because Etsy understands little to nothing about marketing. Even if I viewed something does not mean I wanted to buy it. Just because I bought something does not mean I ever intend to buy something similar to it any time soon. But this type of marketing works often enough to make Etsy and other sites keep repeating the items I already know I do not want.
or, items that you have already purchased!
