Hello, I'd like to report a bug in the order rescheduling functionality.
Last night, Mar 2, I rescheduled an order to ship earlier, by opening the "Update ship by date" dialog and selecting the "New ship by date" to be Tue, Mar 4. After clicking the "Update and message buyer" button, the order started showing as scheduled to ship immediately on the same day, Mar 2, instead of Mar 4 as selected. Right now the order appears as overdue, showing "Ship by 1 days ago" in red.
For Etsy reference, the order is #3610910378.
The order has 2 items with different timelines. One item has a flexible shipping timeline of 2-10 days, and one has a fixed shipping timeline of 5 days. Judging by the rescheduling results, the code is set to subtract a certain number of days from the shortest available timeline, instead of setting the new shipping date as selected by the shop owner. This doesn't make any sense, produces unexpected results, and is certainly a bug.
When rescheduling, the new shipping date should be set to whatever calendar date is chosen in the "New ship by date" field.
I hope this will be investigated and fixed. Thank you.
First, no idea why it didn't take the date you selected. But there really is no reason to update the ship by date unless you need more time. In the future just ship it early if you want to. You don't have to update it.
There was no need to update the ship date to an earlier date, your buyer would simply receive a notification it had shipped when you posted it. It is usually used when choosing a later date than the scheduled date, not an earlier date.
.
This has been happening for at LEAST 3.5 years as it happened to me when I tried to extend ship by dates in 2021 due to evacuation from a wildfire. I seriously doubt Etsy will bother to fix it. What I found by "experimenting" around with it later was if I set the new date and then tried to save it would revert to "today's date". To get it to work I had/have to set the new date--then do it a second time and then save and it will work fine.
All that said--if one is shipping early there is no point or need to reset the ship by date.
The feature obviously has a bug. It needs to work as intended, and change the date as chosen by the user.
I wanted to report this bug via chat and it was suggested this is the best place to report a bug. Before all, I expect an answer from Etsy's web development team, if this is on their radar, known bug, unknown bug, timeline to fix, etc.
We do care greatly about our customers' experience. We want to keep them well informed and up to date on when something will be ready to ship. When a customer wants production to be rushed, we need to be able to set the correct due date, so a customer would receive a formal confirmation. Not only that helps a customer feel more confident, but it also helps with scheduling on our end, so we can see when an order is actually due to be completed and shipped.
Thank you for your input, @DragonflyDreams1 @ThePurplePuppy @JJewellerySuppliesUK, however, is beyond me why people would comment on a bug report to suggest I should not use the feature at all, or use it only in a certain way that makes sense only to them. No wonder Etsy doesn't bother fixing things and there are so many issues with the Etsy platform that never get fixed.
I still hope to get a response from Etsy on this.
What we are trying to tell you is that no matter what "chat" tells you Etsy does not and will not come here to the forum and offer help (except to tell you they are working on spammers messages--or to close an old outdated thread). Chat tells you that simply because they have no answer and want to get rid of you.
And I too do not know WHY we bother to comment and try to help people when all we get is a slap in the face because we don't know the answer. The reason (probably) that we TRY to offer help is because we know Etsy is NOT going to fix this and to offer the workarounds that we have discovered.
@SilverFloret Etsy is not here per se. They don't always know of these posts.
Unless your item needed updating shipping to a later date there was no reason to touch the date. I never change to an earlier date. I just ship earlier. The buyer does not choose the shipping time frame. They can ask but a seller is not compelled to comply if it is not possible. Buyers are fine with that. When I have had to extend shipping it has worked just fine.
The buyer receives an email of shipping once you mark the order complete or use Etsy labels. No need to send a separate notification.
As to chat, they are limited in what they can do and when they can't the tell people to come here sadly enough. We can't do anything as we are fellow sellers and can only give our knowledge
It would be quite unusual for Etsy to respond as this doesn't happen frequently enough for it to be on their radar.
@ThePurplePuppy, and also @JJewellerySuppliesUK & @DragonflyDreams1 Please accept my apologies for my earlier outburst. I know all too well what you say is true. If Etsy cared about addressing issues and making the platform better, they would have a real place for submitting, tracking, resolving bugs and issues. This here is a community forum, so thank you very much for responding with your thoughts and suggestions. It is not what I wanted to hear, and I was hoping more people would chime in to confirm if this feature works or not for them. And if a lot of people say it doesn't work properly, maybe... just maybe Etsy will take a look. That was my silly, silly hope. It is really frustrating that nobody at Etsy seems to care, while our lives literally depend on this platform. I have reached out to Etsy several times, one way or another, about serious bugs and issues, and it has never resulted in an intelligent conversation, let alone a fix or a change whatsoever. They keep pushing their irritating marketing surveys, and everything that matters goes into a black hole. SO FRUSTRATING! So yes, you are right! Thank you all for trying to help, and please keep it up.
