Hello,

Could Etsy please stop putting “materials available” under jewelry makers listings when they come up in search?  What is the point or benefit for anyone to adding this under our listings?  Is Etsy trying to discourage sales and encourage people to make their own jewelry?

Surely I can’t be the only shop owner to find this annoying, intrusive, and pointless?  It’s even appearing under vintage listings.

I realize this is a forum of peers but hopefully an Etsy mod will read this.  Please comment if you've noticed this and it annoys you.

Thanks much and best wishes to all.

I thought this might be it also except all of my items have materials identified and some of my items show ‘materials available’ in search and some don’t so I don’t think it’s quite that straightforward.

Knowing Etsy and Etsy speak, maybe it's an allergy warning sort of like "made in a nut free kitchen" on food items.

Don't know why artificial unintelligence did this, but when I initially typed nut free it came out made in a hat free kitchen.

I am not understanding why people are upset about this...? I agree that it's a weird placement, but you're already (I assume, anyway, for transparency purposes) including materials used when you are creating your listing so potential buyers know what materials were used to create your item. With jewelry, it can be essential to know in case someone has an allergy to a certain metal or they just don't like certain materials.

I am upset about this because I sell primarily antique vintage jewelry. People who purchase antique and vintage jewelry do so, well, primarily because it’s antique/ vintage and not vintage ‘inspired’.  I believe indicating vintage and antique items have ‘materials available’ and therefore were handmade will lead to a decrease in sales. This doesn’t apply in my mind to just jewelry. I think this is going to cause a decrease in sales for most if not all categories of vintage irems.

@AutumnHollowStudio  I’m upset about it because it appears as a caption below my items in search. I want my product title to appear as the very first thing, not ‘materials available’ whatever that means. The materials my products are made from are included in my product description. Etsy’s drop down menu doesn’t include al the materials I use anyway, plus Etsy only seems to select a few of the materials I have included from their menu in the quick view style section of the listing. Nickel, for example, isn’t on their list of options - something customers most certainly do want to be aware of - so I make absolutely sure all materials are clearly disclosed in my listings. This ‘materials available’ business is confusing for customers and it seems that some think it means ‘to make yourself from a kit’. That upsets me too

I sell jewelry, but also some craft supplies (mostly jewelry destash) in my shop as well.

I first noticed the "Materials available" under one of my lockets. My first assumption was that because I sell any supplies at all, Etsy was trying to let shoppers know I also sell materials, but that would be highly misleading, because I do not sell the materials to make that specific product.

This is so unclear, and will only create confusion. If we, the sellers, don't know what going on, how is a buyer supposed to know?

I thought it was a kit or supplies, or worse, that the potential customers could find the materials on Etsy to make their own lol
