"How to delete an item sold and shipped in 2009. This item is still being shown as not shipped. I do not have a tracking number and no contact with this customer

I believe it is beyond the time to cancel.  I think in these cases, you have to ask Etsy to remove it.

Thank you for your reply. I stopped selling on etsy many years ago and have just recently listed a few items for sale. Silly question. How do I contact etsy to ak them to remove this old outstanding listing?

For orders this old, you need to contact Etsy and ask them to cancel it.  Doing it yourself at this point will result in a message being sent to the buyer that the item has shipped and confusing the customer.
