Why is my patternbyetsy site showing a failed SSL certificate message? Why can't photos be uploaded to Gallery or About pages? When will these long-lingering issues be addressed? Why does this sub-par performance cost $15 per month? Such potential - but Etsy seems unresponsive.

Many sellers using Pattern by Etsy report a lack of development, customer support, and an increasing consensus of horrible experience.

As @JJewellerySuppliesUK suggested, your own website, albeit without Etsy's reach, could do better.

I think the neglect is a feature of pattern now and not a bug.  From what I understand, you can use pattern but etsy doesn't provide support and they probably aren't making updates to it/keeping it current.  It's probably best to find another vendor if you want something like a stand alone website.

As many have suggested, if you unpleased with pattern there are several alternatives.  I am along time pattern user.  I never expected it to be a stand alone or to have many bells and whistles.  Perhaps your expectations were not the same as mine and that is why you are not pleased. 

I hope you find another site that will meet your needs.

All of that has been happening for quite a while now.  I had a Pattern site since the inception and have just canceled my subscription.  Pattern does not have much upkeep to speak of and hasn't had for a long time.  Not a glitch, it's just neglected on purpose.

I gave up on Pattern when Etsy removed the people involved in taking care of it.  I knew at that point it would not be kept up to date or updated.

Honestly I suggest getting a website someplace else.

It has been for years, now.  Worked great in the beginning, then Etsy neglected it big time and it was no longer profitable. 

So I gave it up and started my own site, and it's way more productive.  Go for it!

Etsy seems to have stopped doing this finally but it used to be a pretty regular thing for them to think up some new adjacent program and create a big hype, sucker people in and then abandon it. That’s why I never even tried it out.

I have been on Pattern since the beginning and am still receiving almost daily orders even in my slow season so it more than pays for itself. It serves it's purpose for me and I have been lucky to never have an issue with it. I am sorry others are having so many issues. I do wish they would make a few updates to freshen it up.

Etsy ahs introduced a lot of programs described as having several tiers and implemented the first level with promises of updates.  Updates never happened.  I signed up for Pattern when they announced they were getting ready to release new updates.  Then etsy reverted to their regular habit of not updating or maintaining programs.  So I got rid of it and never missed it.  If it is useful for a shop, great.  But not for me or for a lot of shops.

I also had no issues with the everyday workings of my Pattern shop, but the failed SSL certificate message is indeed an issue and one that many visitors to my Pattern shop would see. I also had more than enough orders to make Pattern profitable, but I decided that the failed SSL certificate message reflected poorly on my business as a whole, my Etsy shop included.  Most people have no idea what that message means, they just know that it calls the legitimacy of the business into question.  Etsy seemingly has no interest in Pattern upkeep, including messages like that - which are displayed to many potential buyers who come to our Pattern shops.

Thank you for the info, I wasn't aware of this issue. Do you have a Pattern domain or do you use your own purchased elsewhere? I'm just wondering if it is happening only to Pattern domains? I have my own domain.

Pattern was a "new" Etsy idea quite a few years ago to help sellers.  It was dropped rather quickly.  I believe it only had dedicated support for a few months while it was very new.  But that only lasted for a brief time.  Although it can still be purchased on Etsy, the site is not updated nor supported.  It is a very basic program which can work until it doesn't. The SSL certificate error message along with the site stating it's not secure showing up when shoppers attempt to enter a Pattern site is a very common problem which has been happening since it started without Etsy's help to resolve.  There are many website builders with user friendly programs who offer support for their product along with the ability to import Etsy listings.  Many of these sites also offer free trials.  I would strongly recommend utilizing one of these sites rather than Pattern.

About the SSL issue, from what I can tell, Etsy doesn't renew SSL certificates until AFTER they've expired, so you will have a day or two with a failed one, and then it typically corrects itself.  

As others have pointed out, this is just one more example of Etsy's poor handling of Pattern.

This would be true in a normal circumstance. Unfortunately it's not the case here.  I tried out Patter for a short time.  I  used my own domain for it which was up to date and does automatically get renewed. This problem still happened.  Shortly later my Patten site showed up as unsecured.  A week after that a few customers who had responded to my marketing of it reached out to say they couldn't pull it up at all.  This was so frustrating because Pattern has no customer service or Etsy staffing who understands the program as it's not managed.   I canceled Pattern and built a new website as I couldn't get Etsy support.   The SSL problem never happened again once I stopped using Pattern.   I was concerned about having this issue again so I chatted with my new website builder about it as they did give customer support.  It is 100% an Etsy issue and a constant problem for users which has been happening for years.

For around the same price you could literally have your own independent website on Shopify or squarespace or something. Never put all of your eggs in one basket, especially when one of those baskets keeps breaking on you. 

I have a Wordpress website, it’s served me for a while, but I’m in the process of moving to squarespace, it’s just a matter of organizing everything and making the layout look better.

@TeeBlazer- I know you posted this a month ago, so this thread is somewhat stale.  I hope you have gotten your issues addressed.  If you have not, I have recently contacted etsy support for an issue on pattern and was pleasantly surprised that they took care of it almost immediately.  At first, I got the dreaded email back that  someone would be back to me within 24 hours, but honestly all of my issues were addressed and corrected within hours.  I was very happy, so do not despair.  Despite what many have said in the forums, the support just might not be as bad as has been reported here...just maybe.  I was a bit apprehensive about contacting them because of all the negative reports, but I was so glad I did.
