There are a lot of scams hitting new shops. Please visit the forums regularly and keep up to date with all the scams. There are many new sellers who have been caught out and given up personal data including credit card numbers.
Etsy messages will be listed in a specific folder called From Etsy. Where possible, use a browser to check your messages so you can mark bad ones as spam and see clearly if it's a genuine message from Etsy.
Etsy will not send you offsite and will not ask for information it already has.
