when I click publish listing I get the alert having trouble saving changes and to contact customer support. Customer support says this is an ongoing issue . I can't publish items.. then customer support abandoned me on the chat

Are you able to see at the top of the listing page to use the old form? When you edit or create. I've had issues like this, and still use the old form, 90% of the time.
I am using a desktop and firefox browser and have switched to the old format since the new format would upload 1 image and then next one takes forever to upload or give me an error. The old version has just upload another image but it takes forever. What the heck is going on. It is driving me crazy (yes I am trying to upload images to a listing as I type. I think I may give up trying get all the photos up today as publish as is.) Also I have been finding that I experience a lot of time outs with error notices on Etsy webpages in general. This is not happening with other websites, just Etsy.
