I'm new selling in Etsy, and with my first announcement I had a message from a buyer. But when I try to answer, a message appears saying I'm trying to send a message with an invalid account. I want to know what happened and if anyone had experienced the same issue.
It could have been a scam message. Inform yourself on identifying scammers. They are targeting new sellers. A must read:
Was the message about them needing your email to make a purchase? If so, that was a scam.
Was it a message about buying a gift card and sending them photos of it in order to verify your account and get paid? If so, that was a scam.
Was it about them sending you some confirmation for payment or something via email? If so, that was also a scam.
Was it from an account that had an etsy logo and said 'etsy support' as the name asking you to confirm an order for payment? If so, that was also a scam and not a real etsy support person.
Was it a generic "hello" or "nice" or other one word message with one of your most recent listings attached to it? If so, it was likely a scam.
Was it a string of random letters like djslhdkldeu hdjjdrws and a link to your most recently listed item? If so, that was also likely a scam.
See the theme here? It's scammer city around here lately. The thread linked above by @HouseofWhisperingFir is a must read for all sellers especially new sellers who have not had their first order yet and/or are not as familiar with how etsy works.
When you try to reply to one of these scammers and you are unable to that usually means etsy has removed that scammer account.
