@DivineCrossings In the court of public opinion, it may not matter if a buyer/seller was scammed ON Etsy or BY Etsy… eventually potential customers might just recognize them as a scammy website. Obviously Etsy recognizes there is an issue here since they added those disclaimers to the message section & help guide.
This is such a horrible thing to have happen especially when you are a new seller and to have AliExpress steal your designs and photo's as well is a real slap in the face.
I think the real problem is that so many new sellers on Etsy don't bother to read any of the information that Etsy does provide. Whether it is the page about how orders work for sellers (then the scam messages would at least raise a red flag), or the rules of what is allowed to be sold on Etsy. For some sellers it seems to be karma that they have been fooled by the scammers when they as sellers are knowingly trying to scam their buyers that what they are selling is handmade when they are just reselling.
@Clickanshop28 You got scammed by a scammers message NOT by Etsy as you're implying from your post.
You should have had popups on the message page alerting you to these scams.
The help pages on how you get paid here has nothing about having to send a buyer your email to get paid, let alone your bank/cc info.
Since you willingly gave access to your bank account there's probably nothing you can do.
If the bank hasn't transferred that money to the scammers you might can get them to stop it but more than likely it's too late.
I've even saw posts where sellers admitted they saw the info about messages from Etsy would be in the FROM ETSY section and still gave the scammers their bank/cc info because they thought it was from Etsy because it had Etsy staff, Etsy stuff, Etsy assistant, etc even though that message was NOT in the "From Etsy" section.
How can sellers see that pop up about Etsy messages and warning them of a scam and they still get scammed?
WHY would you need to pay Etsy $100's of dollars to get paid for a $4 item?
Sometimes common sense needs to take over.
