clearly scammers have hacked etsy
scammers haven't hacked etsy. You followed a link that was in a scammer's fake etsy email to a page that basically was spoofing etsy in order to steal your information.
Unfortunately these types of messages and emails have been a common scam going around lately.
Just a question, this was an email? Or was it in the message system? If your personal or business email outside of ETsy, I would go further to investigate your email account. Your email address may have been hacked or stolen long before you started a shop. Check your other accounts and keep an eye on them.
Yes this has been an issue for several months now.
ETsy has information in the yellow box in messages about it and a link to more information.
I am so sorry you were scammed. Please call your bank and start a fraud report at your bank. If your police office has a cyber crime unit contact them.
Also run your anti-virus. It is possible someone learned your email name from keylogging on your computer when you were starting your shop

" it took me straight onto my etsy page asking for my bank details"
Actually no--it did not take you straight to your Etsy page.
It took you to a CLONE page that "looked" like your page. Never click on links in emails to update critical information. Go to your shop, then your dashboard to do those type things.
I am so sorry.
the message you had a copy of in your e-mail, was a phishing scam
if anything needs to be done on etsy, you go through the app, or a browser to your account, and there will be a dashboard notice.
new sellers don't get the online chat on their etsy dashboard for at least 3 months after their first sale, and never anywhere else, so that was also the scammer, not etsy
If you gave your card details to an e-mail scammer, than gave them your authorisation code to pay them money, then you need to contact your bank -depending on the terms, they may cover you for fraud.
you also need to mark their e-mail as spam, in your e-mail, and block sender,
and send the mail to their phishing department,
if it is bt e-mail, theirs is phishing@bt.com
you can also report it to action fraud
