card change request

for a few days etsy has been asking me to update my payment method and I can't receive credits for my sales. There is an expired card on the payment account that I cannot remove because there is only the "modify" button and not "delete card".

While, for months, I have loaded a prepaid card on which I have always received and made payments, which now etsy no longer seems to accept. Why? does anyone know how to solve it?

Re: card change request

If you need to change your card, you first have to add the new card, then make that one the default card, and once you do you should be able to remove the previous card.

The reasoning behind this is that Etsy needs a valid card on file in case a refund is needed when you have insufficient funds in your shop account to cover it.  So you can't remove the default card.  You have to add the replacement first and make that the default, then delete the old one.

What if you screwed up and deleted expired one. Why there is no option to put a new one? It was literally 2 min apart between this two actions

Re: card change request

You will have to get a credit card or debit card. Other sellers from Italy have reported that recently their pre-paid cards were causing issues.

Re: card change request

Your shop is open and you listings can be added to the cart.

If there is a problem with your card I would expect Etsy to close your shop temporarily.

It may be genuine, but it may also be a scam . . .

  • Did you receive either an Etsy message or an email from "Etsy Support" telling you there was a problem with your account, or that it was supsended?  it is a common fake scam message.
  • Was there a link in the message / email taking you to an Etsy page to change card details? Many scam emails have been linking to fake web pages (that look like Etsy pages) requiring sellers to re-enter card details.

If you have entered card details on a page accessed from an email, then it is likely that the scammers have your card details, even if the screen claimed that the card entry failed (they just want to steal another card number). Contact your bank immediately and cancel any cards used, the scammers have been emptying sellers' bank accounts with them.

If you have a banner message on the "dashboard" page of your shop manager pages when you log in then it is a genuine request from Etsy.

You should only ever access your card information from your shop manager or personal account page menus, never from a message or email link (which may be to a fake page).

You can only edit name and expiry date for an existing card, not the number. You have to "add" a new card if you need to use a new card number.
