Hello,
While I was logged in to my Etsy shop (replying to a customer's message), I suddenly had the screen say "You have been blocked." I was using an up to date Google Chrome browser at the time. I have to be able to respond to customer's messages in a timely manner and have been "blocked" from logging in for hours.
I am unable to login to my Etsy shop (or view the Etsy website at all) on Google Chrome and instead I get the "You have been blocked" message on a white background when attempting to access the Etsy.com website.
I tried different browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) on a computer and on a phone, and nothing was working. I tried Safari again just now and was finally able to use Safari to login to the Etsy forums to post. This has been going on since this morning. Tried contacting Etsy support and can't do so when I get the "You have been blocked" when attempting to log in.
Please help unblock the Etsy website so I can log in to my shop.
Thank you in advance for your help with this issue.
@PeachPoPsParties: I just added this to my post so am adding it here as well since you mentioned in my thread that it wasn't working in Chrome but said above that it also doesn't work in Firefox:
I went a step further than just deleting my cache the typical way and then restarting my computer, so please try this as this is what I did on my Mac:
1. Clicked on History, Clear Recent History.
2. Clicked on Firefox, Preferences, and Privacy & Security. Then I scrolled down to the Cookies and Site Data section and clicked on Manage Data. You can clear the whole lot if you wish, but I prefer to delete certain sites from time to time. I cleared everything for the last few days which included Etsy (important since the glitch is on here) plus any news sites as I read the news on multiple sites and clearing them all fixes glitches sometimes.
3. Closed my browser.
4. Shut down my computer completely and waited a few minutes before starting it up again. I typically restart my computer at this state, but a techie told me a while back that shutting it down completely rather than jump-starting it via a restart can fix more issues.
Hello!

Same thing is happening to me all day today, so frustrating, I type a reply, sometimes detailed and time consuming and then hit send and it says I am blocked! Etsy, please fix this issue so we can communicate with our customers. Thank you!
I am getting the same "you are blocked" on firefox. I seem to be ok on edge.
Possible solution provided by @StitchRoundabout (Thank you!) in another thread (https://community.etsy.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Etsy-blocked-me-while-I-was-responding-to-a-help-requ...
I think that worked (clearing cache and restarting) for the Safari browser.
I am still getting the "You have been blocked" message on both Google Chrome and Firefox on both the computer and phone.

Thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to provide as many solutions and with step-by-step instructions.
I'm now able to login via Chrome, Safari, and Firefox and don't see the "You have been blocked" message right now.
The Chrome/Etsy interface has been historically glitchy. Not sure who's issue it is Google or Etsy but it's annoying. I switched to MSEdge years ago.
@hopeandjoystudios
Thank you for sharing. I'll add MSEdge as one of my browsers too.
Just happened to me on chrome on 1 desktop, other two and phones are fine.
Same is happening with me. I'll try to clear cache. (Chrome browser here on Windows)
I got it today on safari-- I deleted that screen and opened a new one and all was fine.
This is ridiculous. I'm getting the same error and this is the busiest time of the year for me. I'm about done with Etsy.
This is ridiculous!! I cleared all history, shut down completely, restarted, and it went away. For 10 minutes. As soon as I tried to send a message to a customer, I was blocked yet again!!! WTH?
This is happening in my 2nd shop, using Chrome on a Mac. I am writing from my 1st shop, not affected (thus far) using Safari on the same Mac.
No Etsy, there is no robot using my IP address!
I've used etsy for over a year and just today started getting this same message out of nowhere...
This is happening to me every single day now since it first happened on Friday. Everytime I have to clear my cache and it works. But then I have to re-enter all my passwords into the browser though. The first 2 times it happened I was in the middle of typing a message on Etsy. I thought I typed too quickly as I am a really fast typist. However, today I was using Photoshop, and then as soon as I switch to my browser to check if I have any messages on Etsy, this block screen popped up again.
On the first day this happened, I immediately contacted Etsy (as I am a Star Seller so I can contact them anytime during office hours and get live support). They said they believed it was an error, and suggested me to clear my cache. They also reassured me that it's browser-oriented, and they will never just suspend my account because of that. They said the block should only last for a few minutes. If it's still there, I just need to clear the cache.
According to the error message at the bottom of the block screen, it could be one of the following methogs:
1) I'm clicking/browsing too fast
2) A bot is running on the same network as me
3) Something is preventing Javascript from working on my computer
I've been selling on Etsy for about 3 years now, and before this it only happened once when I refreshed the browser a few times too quickly as my computer was very sluggish that day. I got access again shortly after though.
I'd say if you don't have the time to clear cache and reset password at the time it happens, just switch to a different browser for the time-being.
Didn’t work. This is 1/2025. Very frustrating. I can go in a back way by clicking on my shop gmail and entering via a customer email to etsy seller app. Ugh. I have messaged them but not hopeful.
I just had the same exact thing happen while responding to a customer ( the behavior of my browser has caught our attention).
This is scary!
and though it sucks for everyone affected- I was relieved that it wasn't just me!
This happened to me for the first time today and I did the clear cache thing. Well--that was no problem for Etsy--all I had to do was sign back in.
However--I am SO P!**ED!!!!. I was also signed in to my email account. And when I went to sign back in to that I got a screen that told me I had to VERIFY who I was--They had to send a text--then send an email and THEN wanted to call me--I said NO. They finally let me back in and then I got an email asking if I had just signed in to my account! If I have to do this every time I get this block from Etsy I am going to be royally P!**ED every time! I do not have time for all this nonsense.
And yes, I think it is an Etsy coding problem and it will probably never be fixed as they expect us to do these workarounds all the time.
ETA: This is using Firefox, win10, on a PC.
@ThePurplePuppy Oh man, that's awful. I just wrote you in that other Thread, and this post of yours makes me even more convinced that the two are related "verify your device" and the Blocked Message. Yeah, Etsy needs to address this.

ETA: Here is my post to you from the other Thread (it makes more sense if I post it):
"I am not a techie but I think it is an Etsy coding problem."
I agree. Earlier I posted that I have not had this issue (so far); desktop computer, Chrome, Windows 10 (I clear cache, cookies and shut down computer nightly). I had some Messages today, which I responded to. And I sent a couple of Messages (pertaining to Orders). Again, there was no problem.
But all of this is making me consider something. Twice now, I would say within the last couple weeks, when I Signed In, I'd receive a spinning wheel with a brief blurb of text, "Verifying your device". I've never seen this blurb of text before. I always use the same device, and I don't deviate from that. So I wonder if the "Blocked" issue and "Verifying your device" is more than just a coincidence (due to whatever is going on), and I don't believe in coincidences. It would be nice if Etsy would address this for those having trouble. I'm not a techie person, but I do think it looks like a problem on their end.
ETA: Hope it's OK to "at" ad Admin (in this Thread). Too many people are having trouble suddenly for this to be coincidental.

@ThePurplePuppy I am very sorry; this is ridiculous. How can Sellers work like this (rhetorical Q). And it's sudden as well.
And I will have to sign back in to my email and eBay .
I don't want to have to do this every single D****D time I leave my PC and return!
This particular issue has been reported for at least three years and has sporadically affected many sites and all browsers - and have never seen a real solution. Have to wonder if Google reCaptcha is at the root since it seems to disproportionately affect 'protected' pages like Etsy Messages.
The JS code on your messages display is broken and causing a rate limiting error to happen
Error that happens:
Why? Something about the behavior of the browser has caught our attention.
There are various possible explanations for this:

I'm able to login via incognito so I'm definitely not IP blocked.
I was able to reproduce this on windows 11 + brave and OSX + brave, both by leaving the window open on a message that I was reading and getting ready to reply to (had text in the box).
