Hi everyone. Hoping for some insight. I have a customer who is ordering a large number of items. Over 100 and she can’t check out because she’s getting this message. “You can't purchase these items at the same time because of the shop's shipping settings”
I have triple checked my shipping settings and they’re all calculated and 1 ounce or less with half inch dimensions.
I did notice that I didn’t have a US parcel select ground as an option which I have added and hope that makes a difference but besides that I’m at a loss to understand why she cannot complete the order. Obviously, I would love to make this sale, so if anyone has any idea of any other avenues, I could go down as far as fixing this that would be great!
it sure would be nice if Etsy themselves could help me with this and be more clear when they give us messages like this.
I seem to remember it being mentioned that the cart can't deal with over 100 items at a time.
You could try making a custom listing for the 99th + items. What a pain for both of you, though.
I've heard of this before - not sure the solution. Being a supply seller, you could probably set up a custom or reserved listing, if they gave you a list. Hopefully someone else has the answer.
I hope you get the sale!
@RabbitRabbitRI I knew I had seen this issue before -
I got on a chat with tech support and found out the problem was that one item was marked with First Class shipping only (didn't remember doing that!), while other items had different kinds of shipping. I had to add other shipping types to the First Class one. That solved the problem. Whew!
Thanks! I thought about that but it would take me hours, (over 100 items) and would be super confusing to manually update my inventory. But I may have to do that if I can't figure out the problem!
And yes! I thought it might have to do with the shipping profiles, but all of them are the same!!???
Is anything media mail or just one specific service? Shipping profiles can be glitchy.
Hi! I’ve triple checked! All of my listings have the same shipping policies. Same shipping service.
If they all have the same shipping profile you can just edit that shipping profile rather than each listing.
Have you checked the weights and dimensions in your listings?
A mistake could throw things off.
I've caught myself entering ounces in the pound field.
A quick way to check would be using quick edit since the weights and package dimensions are shown in that view.
Yes! Just confirming that they are all the same!
Try calculated shipping ?
Thanks, They are all calculated...
Recreate the shipping profile, give it a new name. Apply the new profile to the listings and see if that fixes it. Maybe?
Thanks. Unfortunately didn't work...

@Adorabilities may be on to something ...
Try a cart with less than 100 items ...
but yeah ... I feel for you and the buyer ... always drives me nuts when I have to involve the buyer in extra steps in order to order something.
And a custom listing would work but how does a buyer tell you about which of the many items to include in the custom listing ... maybe a screen shot of the cart?
@RabbitRabbitRI ask if your buyer is trying to check out with other store's items in her cart. Might be conflicting with your shipping if other store is Paypal only.
Also, I think there's a limit how many items can be checked out, you mentioned over 100. Maybe that's too many.
I know this is a pain and neither of you should have to deal with this, but could she move the items over 99 to save for later and try checking out and if that works move the others back to the cart and purchase separately. You might have to refund some shipping.
I am going to take a different path here. Can you ask the buyer to send you a screenshot of what she is seeing? It's always possible that it might not be occurring where you think it is. Also, I am always mindful of new scams going on daily. It never hurts to be safe.
As for Etsy limiting the number of purchases that can be made in a single order, I tried researching it but did not find anything that indicated there is a limit. There is a limit of 999 in the quantity that a seller can use for a single listing, so that would of course set a 999 items for purchasing limit as well.
@RabbitRabbitRI I just asked AI why this would happen and the response made a lot of sense!
"The Etsy message "You can't purchase these items at the same time because of the shop's shipping settings" appears when items from different shops with incompatible shipping options are added to your cart, or when a shop has shipping restrictions that prevent items from being combined in one order."
Turns out after trying many different things. The conclusion seems to be that Etsy just can’t handle an order with that many items. I think especially if you’re using calculated shipping. She ended up placing separate orders and it all went through! Thanks everyone for your help! Very much appreciated!
