Wondering Why Data Is Incorrect Regarding Tracking and Shipping of Merchandise For Star Seller

I have noticed that the last few months data that is being shown is incorrect regarding my shipping of items in a timely fashion as well as in tracking. I have never ever shipped an item late! Furthermore, there was a hiccup with USPS and their computer regarding the tracking of several items. Although I had tracking numbers in my printed receipts, the USPS system was designating that these items had no tracking when I went into Etsy to monitor the status of said items. It was only when I connected by phone with USPS, that I was able to determine that the tracking numbers were correct and that the items had arrived. Because of this USPS issue and no fault of my own, this seems to have affected my score towards Star Seller Status as well as incorrectly noting that some items were not sent out on time. How does one address these issues? Seems so very unfair. I pride myself in always shipping on time and always sending my items through USPS Priority which includes tracking!

you can't

Tracking may not be visible for one of these reasons:

  • The delivery company may not be supported on Etsy. If Etsy cannot process your carrier’s tracking events, you can consider using an alternate carrier.
  • The number being entered is not the tracking number, or a slight error was made in entering the number.
  • There may be an occasional technical issue beyond your control. While the on-time dispatch metric won’t recognise tracking added after the dispatch date, remember that orders older than three months will not count towards Star Seller metrics.

@FreedomHouseAntiques: Yes, there are USPS, AfterShip and Etsy glitches, but based on posts in this forum often the problem seems to be the data entered into the order when marking it as complete. Have you checked the applicable CSV file to see which orders Etsy thinks there is an issue with? Make sure that the shipped date, tracking number and shipping company show correctly on the actual order. Etsy relies on a third party vendor for tracking (and tracking number validation) and uses the data on the order. Often recent shipments are not correctly / timely updated. Usually a day or two after the package has been scanned the CSV file correctly shows tracking and shipment status. If it is truly a glitch, one of the Etsy moderators has been able to correct the underlying data in some cases and then the Star Seller stats auto update.

Do you check the tracking later in the day?  I do that out of habit just to make sure the package has been accepted and is now in transit.

Are you using Etsy labels?  The tracking number is already in the order.  It says pre-acceptance or something like that.  Then when you take to the post office, the first scan (the receipt) shows acceptance into the system.

If you are entering the information manually after marking complete that sometimes hiccups in the Etsy system.  I do strongly suggest using Etsy labels or Pirateship or another that integrates with Etsy.

Do you ask for updates?  Sometimes that jogs the USPS system.   It is also possible that you got a receipt but the information was not dumped until much later into the USPS system.

You can try and give Etsy the information to see if they will take care of the issue.  They have for a few.
