Will Etsy EVER fix the thumbnail debacle?

For as long as I can remember, the Adjust Thumbnail never works.
It never saves it to where you want it or you can try it out of the blue hours later and it will somehow save.

@WildWestFrontierArt My solution is to upload the image the way I want it for the thumbnail. And the other images too. It works most of the time. I have a couple of thumbnails that don't show quite everything but I assume that's because the image is out of proportion. I've tried different things but haven't been able to figure out what works for these pics.

Etsy wants square photos, so you have to leave more on the bottom and top, if your photos are wider than tall. In the new editor, click on edit on your photo after you upload it, then on transform, to see how big the photo can be. And no I don't think they will ever fix it, we're the ones that have to adjust, as maddening as it is.

@LynnsLittleShop When I've tried that, there's usually a ridiculous amount of "more" on the top and/or bottom. I'm about to relist one of those listings as individual items (or maybe 2 at a time, which should fit reasonably well).

I’ve given up and reached out so many times for this. It worked for a few weeks and then reverted back to not working properly.

I use my iphoneX for pictures on square setting.  Thumbnails are correct size when uploaded!

If you go thru 12-15 cycles of "adjust thumbnail", "publish changes", it usually takes....

I spend more time trying to adjust the thumbnail than any one other task on Etsy as a whole.  I cringe to think of how many more listings, how much more productive and how much more motivated I'd be, if there was a fix for this.

On my laptop I recently realized that if I use the plus and minus signs on each side of the adjustment bar that my photo adjusts, no problem. If I use the black dot to adjust it takes many tries.

OMG!!!!! this is Beyond insane and frustrating! Please Etsy, PLEASE fix the code for adjust thumbnail! Omg it worked at least a year or more ago for a Decade or more!

It's been broken for more than a year, I know - maybe more, it's all a blur.     

While it "technically" works so you can create a reserved listing, the changed attributes do not save as selected.  So when you set up the listing for a supply (example) and you choose "someone else" as appropriate - it all defaults back to "who made it/I did", etc.     If you're fast enough, you can edit it once saved so that it reads correctly but that edit appears in the message text pattern of the customer conversation and it looks like you forgot something or made a mistake.   And that's of course if you get there fast enough to edit if the buyer wasn't sitting and waiting for you to post the listing to buy.

I think I'm just bitter because it was one of the few things that sellers campaigned for over several years and it was SO useful.    Now it's been Etsy'd, it's limping along and technically functional but lacking in accuracy and substance.

It is always better to depend on yourself rather than any platform. Adjust, crop, rotate, etc, before you upload them. Then you have the photo if it is ever needed again. I have had pictures go missing and replaced with ones that were 5 years old. I can't imagine what a mess I would have if I didn't have copies of my pictures.
