When I go to a store and like whatever product, I often want to see what else the shop has. Clicking on the store name used to just send me to their main page - now it auto-scrolls me down to click the store name AGAIN to get to their store. Just because someone on the backend of etsy learned what page location links are doesn't mean you need to implement them! The quicker people can get to a page, the more likely people are to buy, it's basic SEO. Please get rid of this.
I "think" this is a test that is going on. I saw it for a bit, but then it went away for me. The added extra clicks aggravate me too, but Etsy certainly seems to like them!
It's apparent that Etsy likes the extra clicks - we learned that from the "new" listing page...LOL
I'm not in the test for this. I click on your shop name and it takes me to the shop home page. No extra click.
It's a test. Not everyone sees this or is in the test. And the tests are done by accounts, not shops.
Etsy loves clicks.
They add extra clicks to everything they try to 'improve'.
More clicking ='s more data to analyze or manipulate to justify random changes nobody asked for.
Self deleted.
I suspect that they are testing if showing a (potential) buyer the 'You may also like' items that compete with your listing will increase sales over taking that buyer directly to the shop's home page; keeping in mind that Etsy does not care who that person buys from, only that a sale is made.
Its sad to see stuff like this being implemented. There is no logic to this being done. Web Marketing has not changed much over the years.
I just checked mine again and its back to it normal layout, EXCEPT my announcement is at the bottom?
Egad!
Maybe Etsy pays their programmers (or designers or whoever is responsible) by the click ????????
I saw this too and as a past seller I was fuming at what I was seeing. At first I was confused. I saw a few small thumbnail photos from the shop that I was TRYING to look at since it was HER art from Pinterest that I was attracted to, but much to my surprise I saw LARGER thumbnails from sellers selling "similar" items, as well as what looked like Gift guides and a bunch of other Etsy promotions that had absolutely NOTHING to do with what I was attracted to the site for in the first place. I FINALLY figured out that I had to click on the sellers name again in what I would call a small overview of her shop. Absolutely HORRIBLE way to treat both the seller and the buyer.
To be honest, I do MOST of my shopping on Ebay now, Etsy is a HORRIBLE shopping experience. The best thing I ever did for my health and mental well being was to STOP selling on Etsy and sell my art in person.
Just noticed this yesterday, came here to see if it was a new ‘thing’. I hope they don’t go ahead with this, and it’s just an experiment, it’s awful. Hard enough to get people to your store, now this? It isn’t obvious either that you have to click the name again to get to the store.
Just another step to make a tough business harder!
Every time I've filled out the questionnaires from Etsy to "help them improve" I've always said they need to make it **easier** to click to our shops so that the likelihood increases for multiple item purchases. Make the stars a bright color, not black. Make the shop name blue and underline it to make it **clear** that it's clickable. But no. You would think increasing sales would be a motivator but apparently it's not at the top of the list.
