A customer sent me this screenshot today where it shows Free shipping somewhere in her checkout process on a phone. Then when she actually checks out, it charges what it is supposed to for shipping.
Not sure if it helps but I just carted the same item in the same size on my desktop and it's not showing me free shipping. It's showing $10.75 for the shipping fee to ship to me in California. Is this a new customer ? If so is it possible that it's some sort of new scam attempt? Or is sit perhaps due to an outdated version of the app?
Edit to add- just checked on my phone via the etsy shopping app and it's not showing me free shipping their either. It's showing the same $10.75 for shipping as it does on desktop.
Because of the size of the picture she sent, it looks like a phone app. She hasn't bought it yet. She said she would buy it when the free shipping was fixed. I had another one like this the other day, too. I told the other one I had never had free shipping and she went away. I don't know if it is a new scam or an Etsy glitch.
I discovered a while back that the phone app shows free shipping until you actually check out:
That's really weird. It shows me some blurb about shipping fee will be calculated during checkout. Then I have to select my shipping address and which cc I want to use etc. Then it shows the shipping fee total on that final page before I actually check out. It didn't ever show me free shipping at any point in the checkout on the app.
The never-ending weird glitchy bits around here are really getting a bit out of control.
@WitticismsRus - and I personally am truly getting tired of glitches being casually accepted as just a daily part of routine around here. This is a business!
@WitticismsRus They should be showing the shipping fee right away. When it is a surprise during the checkout process is when people are likely to abandon their cart.
I totally agree. It should be very clear in the cart long before they show it. It does show on the listing page though before even adding to cart.
Maybe it doesn't show in cart until the very end due to multi shop checkout or something. Who knows. Even if we did know they would likely change it again next week lol
Shipping costs are shown on the product pages, but they used to show as soon as you carted something, which was great when you had many items you wanted to purchase (same seller) ... I liked it when I could readily see the combined costs upfront. But Etsy recently changed that and now shipping doesn't show until the very end of checkout (after adding address / payment), which is just wrong IMHO! The FS glitch is happening more often and could be why buyers are pausing their purchases. I hope Etsy takes note of this and changes it back to showing shipping right away!
ETA ...
Definitely a glitch happening with the free shipping. I just got an order where the buyer got FS and used an abandoned cart coupon ... in addition, I am to ship this item out early next week. Problem is ... I don't offer FS and my processing is pushed out til after we return from vacation. Not sure why this is happening! Luckily the buyer accepted the updated ship date, and I will honor the FS, but these glitches should not have happened in the first place!!
Is it possible that Etsy is covering that "free" shipping? As a first time buyer perk? If so, you as Seller would still see a shipping charge, then Etsy would credit you with an account adjustment...Maybe a marketing test?
Sometimes, on the shipping notifications Etsy sends, it says something like
"Woo hoo! Get free shipping on your next order! " with a button to "Shop now".
Very misleading.
I just sent one. This is what it says.
Free shipping? Ooh yeah! |
How about a little something extra? Free shipping! Get it on your next order. |
LOL!! I needed that!! Wake Up People. Smell the coffee, roses, and know it's half way to Holiday...Hehehe
I have had that happen 3-4 times. I talked to customer service for about an hour one time. They confirmed all my setting were correct and could not offer a reason why it happen. The screen shot will show free shipping, but when they go to buy they will see the shipping cost.
So, this was reported a couple of months ago and there's been no response from Etsy?
Innocent sellers are catching the blame for this.
Yes, no response. I would say only 1 person went thru with a purchase. I really felt Etsy were trying to figure out something. It should not matter and I don't know for sure, I feel it was only on phones devices. The two screen shots I did see were phones.
Now I understand why I just received a message asking "will this bracelet be free of charge." Don't know what else they could be referring to.
