I had a customer contact me a few days ago stating that their cart showed free shipping. I have never offered free shipping and explained that to them. I also suggested maybe other items in their cart was throwing it off or something??
Today, they sent me a screen shot. It's the phone app. There are my items and only my items in her cart. Shipping shows as Free. I went into the app myself, placed items in my cart that clearly show that there will be a shipping charge in the listing. But the CART shows Free. It's like until you actually CHECK OUT, Etsy pretends shipping is free, rather than say it will be calculated at check out, or actually calculating it.
I don't always pay attention to Free Shipping threads since I don't offer it, so I'm wondering if this is a known issue? (I did search, but it's hard to get past all the other free shipping threads.)
One MORE reason customers always expect free shipping. Such poor design.

I'll give this one bump to see if I get any takers.
I'm just trying to figure out if it is worth reporting to Etsy or if it's a long known issue.
Oh, weird. Yes, I just added one of your items to my cart on the app and it does indeed show free shipping. When I look at it on desktop, the listing indicates $4.36 for shipping.
On the app, the shipping price did not show up in the listing. In order for shipping to show up on the listing, I had to click the truck icon to enter my destination. HOWEVER even after I did that and went back to the cart, shipping still said Free.
Uugggghhhh. This is just perfect for customers to claim "bait and switch"
@RebecaMojicaJewelry YES! I frequently get questions about free shipping. I'm thinking that this is at least part of it!
Hmmm... I don't suppose you have FSG activated for $35 +?
No, as I mentioned, I have never offered free shipping.
One time I got an order that had free shipping, but I didn't have FSG activated. I looked in the shipping profile for that listing and I had "free domestic shipping" checked. Gah! I immediately checked all my other profiles but it was the only one affected. Sometimes when we work quickly things get missed. Of course, if this is just happening for you on the app and not on the desktop or mobile browser then it's probably a glitch. Etsy seems to have a lot of those these days.
No, no one is actually GETTING free shipping. It just shows in the cart as free until you check out.
I also tried this with other shop's items and had the same results.
@funkydreamsmosaics I see. That's weird
I just tested this with one of my own listings, using the buyer app (not signed in, as a guest) ... yes, when I add it to the cart, it shows shipping is free! I have a shipping profile with $3.75 fixed rate shipping on this listing.
@RebecaMojicaJewelry, bait & switch indeed! That also confirms it's not specific to your shop or your shipping settings, @funkydreamsmosaics .
@BlackSheepDyeworks Uh oh...
Same shows on the browser. I have FSG on $35, but sale items priced lower also show as free shipping. Buyer was asking why listing page said free shipping but checkout showed $10. I had to explain to her that it was an Etsy glitch, … luckily she understood and still purchased!
I have been unable to recreate this using the browser. It ALWAYS happens in the app. But it doesn't surprise me that it might happen with the browser sometimes.
I just had a buyer request to cancel her order because it showed free shipping (she sent me screenshots) and once she clicked for apple pay it applied my shipping charge. I am not happy, Etsy you need to get this fixed. It feels like a bait and switch situation and it causes distrust.
I don't have the buyer app installed; I only use the desktop so this is interesting to say the least and makes we wonder if buyers that place multiple separate orders think it's all free shipping. There should at least be a line that refers to the shipping being calculated.
Same thing is happening to me but on multiple items in my shop. How do we resolve this??
This was an older post, so if you're still having issues, I'd report it to Etsy under technical issues.
