When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

I had an order shipping to the Bronx, NY but the packing slip (something I always print out) was in Canadian dollars. Um…anyone else with geographic order confusion? Luckily, the order receipt showed the correct U.S. dollar amount, so I was able to use that instead. But why are the packing slip and the order receipt showing different currencies? And why would Canadian dollars show up at all? This was an issue on both the .com and the app. Should I send Etsy a map?

Re: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

could it be that the person who ordered it is in Canada but is having it shipped to someone in the US?

Re: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

@cutebutton @I thought of that, but there was no gift message/preview. Also, it was being sent to the buyer, not to a third party. And the order receipt was correct. Sooooo weird!

@DivineCrossings

It may not be a gift.

I have bought things on my etsy account and had them shipped to my grandmother at her address because she doesn't really know how to use etsy.

Or they could be sending it to a family members house but still using their name because it's cheaper than to get it sent to Canada and they will pick it up when they visit?

There are many explanations.

Re: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

@cutebutton @Possibly, but it’s still something I’ve never seen before and the order receipt was fine. Wouldn’t both the packing slip and the order receipt need to be in the same currency?

I would think the order receipt would be in the currency you are receiving and the packing slip would be in the currency they paid?

But I'm not sure about that but to me that would make sense.

Re: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

Either what @cutebutton said, or the buyer's currency settings were set differently. I buy in USD here, generally, so my account is usually set to USD, even though I am in Canada.

Years ago I had a buyer flip out on me because "the price changed". Turns out he was viewing the site in GBP, but was in the US. He was very angry and insisted on a partial refund, even though I explained that his automatic settings were wrong, he had been viewing the site in a different currency, and showed him how to complain to Etsy. After multiple back & forths, I just cancelled the order & refunded in full LOL

Re: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

I’m sure there’s some reasonable explanation, but as I mentioned above, the packing slip and the order receipt were in two different currencies…that’s what’s throwing me. : ). It seems odd that someone would order in a currency that doesn’t carry a  favorable exchange rate. The Etsy order on the orders page also shows US dollars…Canadian dollars only show up on the packing slip.

@cindylouwho2  So you told him to ''forward his concerns to a specialist team''?

Betreff: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

One common case is that a customer from one country moves to another country and the currency of his buyers account is still in the currency of the counrty of origin. If he orders now to his current domicile, the packing slip is in the currency of his origin.

We have plenty of migration here in Europe and I have had various combinations of currency/destination among my orders. I have shipped plenty of parcels with such packing slips to various countries and I never have been contacted regarding some tax/customs issue.

Re: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

Packing slips are in the buyer's selected currency, not necessarily that of their country.

They don't need to match the order receipts, which are in the seller's currency.

Re: When did the Bronx migrate to Canada?

Buyers can buy in whatever currency they want to, the packing slip is in the currency the buyer chose to pay in.

I often buy from USA and Canada shops, to send to friends and family there, and pay in £

the order receipt is in the shop currency
