When I get new orders it always shows payment is in process and does gets confirmed many few of them

Jump to solution

As I am observing on my ETSY seller account, many of my orders goes into processing when someone orders from my shop.

Then I receives an email from ETSY that they are still processing my order and will follow up with a confirmation email within 72 hours.

Some of those orders gets processed and confirmed but more than 70% of the orders gets cancelled.

It was happened with me for the first time in February but after that in April that became very usual.

In month of April it happened to me 7 times and all of those orders got canceled stating that the payment was not completed.

Is it a glitch in ETSY payments? Or ETSY is limiting my sales?

I hope ETSY’s backend team should look into this matter and get this issue resolved if it’s an issue. And if the ETSY is limiting my sales then it should not be like that.

This occurs when Etsy’s payment processor detects problems with a payment (usually stolen or fake credit cards), so they are, in fact, protecting you.

I received the same information from Etsy Help, stating that they are protecting me from suspected fraudulent transactions. However, I still have doubts because I haven't faced such issues until now. Suddenly, almost 40% of my orders are being cancelled. Even today, two of my orders got cancelled.

Etsy payments for India and a few other countries is different than it is for countries like the US and UK.  This may account for the delay.

It may take longer for the payment processor to detect an issue.  If a fraudulent card was used or other issue the order is canceled,

It could be your targeted market, which seems to me to probably be alot of hip-hop kids/younger adults who don't have the money for your kind of items (actually the prices if your items).  I'll betcha if these items could be made lots cheaper, you'd get more sales comin g through.

I have been selling high-end customized hip-hop jewelry since the beginning of my shop.

I never encountered any issues while accepting PayPal payments.

The problem arose immediately after I enrolled in Etsy Payments in India.

Even today, two of my orders have been canceled by ETSY after they had gone to the payment processing stage.

@Twoyoungz: Two possibilities - one is pure coincidence. The other is that Etsy's payment processor has different fraud detection algorithms than PayPal.

It is the nature of what you are selling - high end jewelry.

Even if those sketchy sales did come through, they aren't covered by Etsy Seller Protection. Customers could lie and say they never received the item, file a case with Etsy and get the whole amount refunded.

Since my last response, all received orders are being confirmed immediately without any processing, and there haven't been any cancellations.

Can you summarize this issue with the average order value?

I think we should contact Etsy India regarding this issue personally.

I think it is partly a sign of the times. Fraud is rampant on the Internet these days. I am in the US and I actually got a call from Pay Pal the other day informing me too many people were trying to use stolen credit cards in my store on my personal website, and giving me suggestions on how I could beef up my security. So it is not just Etsy.

But we never faced this issue when we used standalone PayPal. Since we migrated to Etsy Payments, we are facing this issue.

It could possibly be that the bank that has issued the credit card is flagging the payments for unusual activity on the card, etc., and not allowing them to go through for some reason. It is between the buyer, their credit card issuer, and the payment processor, you will never know the reason for privacy issue reasons.

Re: When I get new orders it always shows payment is in process and does gets confirmed many few of

I am writing to address ongoing issues I've encountered since enrolling in Etsy Payments. Unfortunately, the problem of order cancellations persists. Since my last communication on May 21st, orders totaling $19,142 have been canceled on my shop.

I have discussed this matter with Etsy support, who assert they are protecting me from fraudulent buyers. However, I find this explanation dubious. In fact, two buyers contacted me directly via WhatsApp, and I successfully fulfilled their orders without any issues.

Moreover, the cancellations cannot be attributed to buyers' banks declining transactions. Several customers have informed me that while their banks debited the amount, Etsy declined the payment, resulting in funds being redeposited into their accounts.

From my observations, it appears that all orders valued at more than $2000 are automatically canceled by Etsy, despite Etsy's reluctance to acknowledge this issue. Therefore, I suggest that sellers facing similar challenges voice their concerns to Etsy so that they address this matter seriously. Otherwise, we may have to consider migrating to our own websites in the future.

@Twoyoungz: There are basically two steps in payment acceptance. One is the declines that a shop never sees (bad card number, insufficient balance, etc), the other is the payment processor's fraud prevention algorithm or post initial approval reversals (card issuer does not confirm transaction approval, suspicious activity on card, etc). The latter are the ones you may or may not see in your shop. While every processor uses their own formula and there are a significant percentage of false positives, size of the transaction and the items being purchased definitely are part of that assessment - particularly if it deviates from the buyer's purchase history. Not defending Etsy, but these decisions are made by their payment processor not Etsy. If you were making the sale on your own website your payment processor might have declined the transaction too.

Unfortunately the law prevents Etsy from discussing specifics with a seller so determining a way to deal with this is near impossible for a seller.

"... all orders valued at more than $2000 are automatically canceled ..." This may or may not be true, but Etsy definitely discourages orders of over $250 as that is the limit for seller protection. The danger for a seller is that if the buyer claims an issue an automatic refund (from your funds) may be made.

Re: When I get new orders it always shows payment is in process and does gets confirmed many few of

Hello,

I have been having the same issue for the last two days! and it is extremely exhausting and disappointing that Etsy does this. I never had my customers' orders processing before but in the last two days my customers literally CANNOT ORDER FROM ME! One of my customer sent me several messages saying that they ordered 3 times and it gets getting cancelled. I see that Etsy takes a LONG TIME processing it and cancel it. I do not believe it has something to do with the buyer because they also did not know why it kept getting cancelled. Even today again, I have an order that is been in process for too long. i never had this issue before so for the last 6-7 months and suddenly 2 days in a row no one can order anything? THAT IS SUSPICIOUS! PLEASE HELP PLEASE!
