When I Open Etsy, I'm on Etsy Ireland. I'm in America. Customers Will Leave.

When I open Etsy, and am not signed in, I am on Etsy Ireland. I'm in America. I have never been on Etsy Ireland in my life. The prices are even different--I don't understand them. What happens when a customer opens Etsy and sees she's in an Irish shop? Bye bye. If your shop is slow, this may be why. Hopefully this glitch is fixed soon.

It is your setting, when you are not signed in. Just open the page and change the country. I think its at the bottom

Yeah, I did that. But I was concerned about that happening to customers. They'll see Irish symbols and just leave thinking they're on a site in Ireland.

Re: When I Open Etsy, I'm on Etsy Ireland. I'm in America. Customers Will Leave.

When I look at your shop incognito, I see Etsy Australia (where I am). Everything else looks ok. I doubt buyers not logged in will be looking that closely at the URL. Your shop clearly says you're in the US and your shipping is from there. Etsy does have a 'presence' in Ireland. A lot of us non-US shops seem to be attached through there.

The pricing difference is a concern though. Perhaps the glitch is a currency one? For a while, Etsy kept changing my viewing currency to USD instead of AUD. This was a few years ago. I had to keep going in and changing it. If you're not logged in, are you using a VPN. That could also skew things because your actual location can't be found.

I don't know what VPN is but all my info is public. I'm concerned about customers seeing the price difference though, like you said, some kind of Irish symbols and they might leave before they look to see where I am or figure out how to change that to see American prices.

@MadGirlRetro a VPN is what people use to mask their location when on the net. Etsy doesn't like and the site won't work properly for those that view the site or log in when using one. If you don't know what it is, it's not likely you are using one and it isn't the cause of your problem.

@AnniebelloPaper

"If you don't know what it is, it's not likely you are using one"

I use Norton 360 and their software automatically sets up a VPN. I have to keep turning the VPN part off.

Also, most of the places I worked used VPNs (for security).

So, it is possible to be using a VPN w/o knowing it.

I think there is a good chance that a VPN is skewing location information. And you're right, Etsy is not a VPN friendly site.

Buyers won't see what you see but even if they did Ireland is not on the moon so I doubt if they'd be freaked out!

Being Irish, I personally love Ireland. But I don't sell internationally. And I don't shop internationally and I know others feel the same way so I worry about people just leaving.

I'm in the US, and see your shop is in the US, and your items ship from NJ.  Whatever you are seeing is on your side, and is not affecting your shop, @MadGirlRetro

Re: When I Open Etsy, I'm on Etsy Ireland. I'm in America. Customers Will Leave.

OK - here's what I think is going on -

You said "When I open Etsy, and am not signed in" - That is just a user setting because you are not logged in, for whatever reason it's defaulting to Ireland.  Here's how to solve it - go view any listing, and look to the shipping cost to ship to you - if it shows the shipping cost to Ireland, or says "this item doesn't ship to Ireland" - click on it and change your location.  That should now show your location correctly - perhaps only for that session, since you aren't signed in.

I've never seen this, when not logged in, or in an incognito tab - you would think it still can sense your location - at least your country.  Maybe it's a new Etsy feature / test, or something particular with your settings on your device (like a VPN).

Rest assured, your shop is fine!

* I understand the concern of any other Buyer experiencing this - it may happen, but they would need to figure it out, and nothing you can do.  Hopefully it's not a new default that is Etsy's doing.

@MadGirlRetro :

Hello, just to let you know that I am in Switzerland and I just visited your Shop and everything is correct.

It shows me that you are in New Jersey, United States. And you don’t ship to Switzerland. So, everything is correct.

Also, regarding the difference in price that you mention, there is a small difference in what you give as price and what Etsy takes from the client, also the change of the day for the money counts, and the use of the credit card, also the taxes of each country. So, it is normal.

Don’t worry, your Shop is showing normally.

another thing that can skew location is being on a satellite internet connection. I was for many years (live in a remote area w/o other options) and my location would show places from all over the country each time I logged in. I might not have noticed, but checking the weather ... it wasn't MY weather (although sometimes I wished it was). Looking for the nearest store would show cities thousands of miles away. And I got a lot of interesting 'local' news.
