What's happened to videos!! HELP PLEASE

Jump to solution

I need some help or Etsy needs to fix something!!

I have been able to upload videos fine until the past couple of days. Now when I upload them Etsy seems to automatically make the bright but they are blown out and have lost all vibrancy, this is not a true representation, so I have deleted them.

Has any one else been experiencing the same problem? Do I ask etsy to fix this, is it a bug or how they want them to look?

Any advice is much appreciated.

It happened to me with some new videos, but it turned out the original video was too high quality (4k).  I took new videos with normal phone settings and they were fine

The information you require was explained in detail in a thread closed by @RavillaNaturalWood yesterday.

Perhaps admin would like to contribute to this thread with their awesome technical expertise as they consider the previous thread to be obsolete information?

The previous really useful and detailed thread explained something along the lines of how . . . .

Etsy displays videos using the standard Rec 709 video colourspace encoding for colours. This uses the 8-bit per RGB channel data to represent a restricted range of colours (gamut)that are standard across the internet. This is the video equivalent of sRGB for stills photos.

Some devices (apple) by default use a "HDR" setting to record using the Rec 2020 standard, which uses the same 8-bit numbers but to represent a wider range of colours.

Etsy ignores the Rec 2020 encoding flag within the video file and displays it as if it is standard Rec 709 narrower range of colour values, hence the colours look muted.

. . . but Admin have decided that that explanation is obsolete.

Admin really should explain how it is different now.

I am still awaiting their awesome technical insight on this subject.

Hi! I have videos recorded in slowmo and videos recorded normally that I then edit into slowmo and, in both cases, they look super blurry when uploading on Etsy. I’ve tried so many things and nothing works - is anyone experiencing the same problem? Thank you!
