I realized over 2 weeks ago I had 2 of my listings that would not allow me to save and update my quantity in the variations. I kept getting an error message, and to contact Etsy support. I went through a week of troubleshooting it with Etsy Support via email. None of the troubleshooting worked, so they said they were sending me to “engineering” department to review these listings for a bug. It’s been 15 days, and I haven’t heard anything back from this department. Does anyone know typically how long it takes for this department? These are my 2 most popular seasonal items. People have already been purchasing them, and some variations have sold out. Even though I have made more of these items I’m unable to upload them to Etsy to sell.
@BethanyLauraHome Yes, copying a listing is starting it over and you will lose the history attached to the "old" listing. You can deactivate the "old" listing so you still have it (no need to actually delete it) and maybe it will work again someday and you can start using it again.
It sounds like you have a choice to make. Copy the listing or not be able to list stuff. I know which I would do ... in a heartbeat!
I didn't see anything in your shop $20 or under. You cannot add more quantity to items that are over $20.
Correction: You do have items under $20 and they do have the quantities listed.
That strange about the variations over 20.00. Since I did not know this I have actually been dong it on all of my items and it works just fine on those over 20.00.
Not making light of this info--just really curious because I do change (usually up) the variations over $20 on a weekly basis (This is usually when I find more of that particular fabric)
I think you are referencing something different than what this seller is dealing with. It's not a matter of Etsy not showing the quantity drop down box on the product page (which only shows if the item is under $20). She has variations with different quantities set. Some of those variations are showing as Sold Out & she is unable to increase the quantity of those due to an error message.
Copy the listings and make the necessary edits, then publish. This gets rid of all glitches that can tend to linger as hidden info.
Copying it is still basically making a brand new listing right? I’ve been building these listings for the past 3 years.

If you're not getting help, just reply to the open thread there to say you still need help and your problem isn't resolved.
I wouldn't hold my breath on Etsy support getting back to you. Sometimes I think an issue has to affect a lot of sellers before they even investigate.
To be clear, are you saying that an item with variations that are sold out, cannot have the quantity updated so that they are now in stock? What type of troubleshooting has Etsy had you do? Did you try to delete the wonky variations & add them again? Other than that, relisting as a new item may work. But depending on the item, perhaps you don't want to lose the stats & history on the product.
It’s a Christmas stocking listing that has 9 different patterns a buyer can choose from. Two of the variations have sold out within the listing, and it won’t let me update those 2 patterns to show they are back in stock.
@BethanyLauraHome Have you tried deleting either the "broken" variations ... or even the entire variation section ... and re-entering that information?
I wouldn't hold my breath. I have 3 listings doing the same thing, they just seem to be broken. I can't update anything or edit anything in them at all. I was initially trying to update quantities of 2 of the variations and it just kept giving me the error. I tried other updates/edits and it gives me the error every time. I can't even fix a typo or remove an extra . in the description. I get an error every single time. I had been going back and forth with email support for months until they finally just stopped responding. The listings still don't work properly. I just deactivated them and gave up. They weren't best sellers or anything like that. I totally understand the frustration especially since the listings you are dealing with are your most popular seasonal items. I hope they get back to you soon and have a solution. If so pretty please share it here so I can see if it works for mine too.
Try a different browser. Sometimes a different browser will allow for editing to happen. Brave is a small one that I have used in the past when I run into issues on Etsy with Edge and Chrome.
Yep, I already tried that.
Try clearing your browser history this helped when I had the same glitch
Etsy Support had me try that as well, and it didn’t work
Maybe you could try a free trial of a third party app like Vela to change the listings?
Sorry to hear that nothing works. I think sometimes a listing just goes bad, but I hope that is not the case and that Etsy fixes it for you.
I have had issues with a listing in the past that could not be updated and went back and forth with support. Finally, someone from the tech team told me it could not be fixed - make a new listing. I hope you have better luck. Have you tried adding those items again to the variation rather than trying to change the quantity?
@BethanyLauraHome This is a good suggestion! Adding that variation as if it were new might trick the algorithm.
Thank you! Unfortunately, I tried this as well. First, I erased all of the variations and added them back, and it still gave an error code. Then I tried just erasing one at a time, and kept getting error code when trying to save.
@BethanyLauraHome Whenever I see "waiting for etsy support" the first picture in my mind is a skeleton sitting on a park bench!
This is hilarious! Thanks for posting!
@BethanyLauraHome I think the original caption was "Waiting for Mr. Right" but it's appropriate here as well!
I am having the same issue. I’ve contacted them three times to no avail. And it’s really frustrating because they’ve sent a lot of my listings that I renewed to my drafts and they’re just sitting there that I’ve already paid for. So annoying
