Verifying account

Okay, I know there are other threads about verifying your account, but I want this thread to be on just helping people figure out the problems they are having so they don't have to wade through all the comments about Plaid.

Here is the problem that I am having. I can't verify my account. I can't get past the first step, where you are supposed to put your account number in. I can't even get to where you are supposed to choose manual or instant. I have tried all the suggestions I could find on these forums. I have tried my account number, my routing number, my account number and routing number together; with zeros, without zeros, I always type the numbers in. I don't copy and paste. I have even had my credit union try typing my account number in. I always get "The account number does not match". This is the same account that I have been using since I first started Etsy years ago. Etsy has been depositing money in it for years. The account obviously matches. I don't know how to fix this. I think it must be some kind of technical issue. I tried contacting Etsy for help 2 days ago, but they still haven't got back with me.

I started thinking that maybe they were having problems verifying it because it is a very small Credit Union. I decided that I would try changing my account to a bigger bank that I also have an account at. When I tried changing it on Etsy, I found out that I couldn't get into any of my financial stuff until I verify the account that I have at the credit union. I am so frustrated. I don't know what to do.

I won't be able to check back until tonight, but I hope other people will also find answers here to the problems they are having. Thanks in advance.

Re: Verifying account

First verify your existing bank account. Wait until the process is completed and then change your bank account if you feel it's necessary.

@KarlasCrafts

Did you get any resolution for this? I am having the same issue - I cannot change my bank account without first verifying the account I have listed on Etsy now, which does not work. I have sent an email to Etsy, but it can take a long time to hear back. If anyone has been successful, I'd love to hear it.

Re: Verifying account

This is very concerning to me. I would assume that without the verification going through your funds are being held even longer than the original  5 days for manual verification?

I have done the same things as the original question by Karla Crafts- all of them!!!... and Etsy has been depositing and taking money out of this account for years now. What do I do now? I have 3 shops - all use the same account.

Re: Verifying account

Just parking here to see what people are experiencing. We have not received the request yet to verify our account but want to have some ideas about what we might encounter before it happens.

Re: Verifying account

If your bank has changed hands since creating your Etsy account, they may have changed their routing#, but are still honoring the old routing#. I had that issue back in the spring. Used the old routing# , it worked and I could input the new #

Re: Verifying account

I'm having the same problem.  I can't get past verifying my account.  Multiple days of trying, numerous attempts each day, every which way.  It's the same account as when I opened my shop in 2011.  Etsy deposits my money and takes all the fees...but yet you cannot verify my account with ease?!  It's frustrating and stressful to say the least.  I have contacted the via email, but who know if and when they will respond.

You are not alone!

Re: Verifying account

I was finally able to connect via Plaid.  Use ten digits!  My account is 13 digits.  I ended up taking off the first three zeros and viola!  It isn't over yet...I choose manual verification which means I have to enter the deposits Plaid sends me in order to receive deposits again.  I'm half relieved!

Re: Verifying account

The problem is that if you are trying to change your bank account because Plaid does not recognize your other account because it's a very small bank or credit union, or if you have opened a new account at a different bank and you no longer have the old account, it seems you cannot verify.

There is no way to update the account number any longer without going through Plaid verification. And if Plaid cannot recognize your account or it no longer exists, I don't know how to update the account. ?

This is true for me not only with this shop which got the Plaid notice, but also with my other shop which does not require it yet. Etsy started this Plaid verification a few months ago whenever someone wanted to change their bank details but did not warn us that we would not be able to update the account number. I am seeing posts from sellers who went ahead and verified their old account because they were able to, but now still cannot update to their new bank account.

If  I get any answer from Etsy, I will post here.

Re: Verifying account

I'm going to post this here in case it might be correct. Someone in another thread thought that the account number entry field might be limited to 10 digits and subtracting out leading zeros to get the number to 10 digits might be what will work if a full number above 10 digits does not. On the flip side I wonder if there are any banks with account numbers less than 10 digits that might need to add in leading zeros (or whatever number of digits Plaid is looking for if 10 is not right and the account number has to be a certain number of digits) ?

If this is correct though I have no idea what to do for our account when we get the notice if it won't verify the full account number. Our account number is more than 10 digits but does not begin with a zero.

Re: Verifying account

@BirdsongEmporium  I tried my account number a few different ways and it kept getting rejected. It finally worked when I put in all 15 digits that are on my checking statement. That included a bunch of zeros at the front. I then chose the manual method and the number had to go in two more times. I put in all 15 digits for those too and it worked out fine.

Re: Verifying account

Just to update this post. To change your bank account to another one, you have to contact Etsy support. You cannot do this yourself. Support will unlink your present bank account so you can enter the correct number. This also works well for those who cannot get their account number to be accepted. Choose the Manual method once you can enter your bank account number if you don't want Plaid to have 24/7 access to your bank account.

It is best to use chat or a callback for this because email seems to be really bogged down at this time. To request a callback, try this link:

Re: Verifying account

Plaid will not accept the bank account on the bottom of my checks that i supplied to ETSY when I opened my shops years ago, and have been receiving payments regularly with no problem. I cannot reach etsy for help... the request for phone help line is no longer in service and refers me to the online seller help which in help at all. I don't know what to do.  My credit union sent me my account number and it's apparently changed over the years (stil essentially the same with extra zeros) but ETSY still sends payments to me with the one I originally supplied. So the original number I supplied to ETSY does not work, and the updated one the CU sent me doesn't work... what to do??

Re: Verifying account

@Former_Member

Are the extra zeros in the beginning of the number? Try a different number of leading zeroes. That has worked for some.

Not sure why the request call-back shows not in service. It is available when I click the link with a wait time of 2 minutes. Maybe try again?
