Variation Photos

OMG! I’m going crazy here!! This Variation thing is driving me up the wall!  Ok. I make an item which comes in several colors aka Variations: When adding pics of the item in the photos section of a new listing, I have maybe 8 or so photos of the item from different angles showing the front, back, lining, etc. so the buyer can get a complete view of what they’re getting.

I don’t believe there is a primary or secondary color because I have 10 variation (colors). Right? In Variations, I have created 10 colors - red, blue, purple, etc. So WHERE is the picture of these color options to link?  I don’t think these color pics (swatches) should go in the photos section when doing the listing  - that’s where I’m listing the different angles of the item? Is there a place where I can list the swatch variation colors and just pull them into “link photo?”

I was previously doing multi listings in different colors of the same item - 10 different listings for each color.  This is too costly… and stupid. Please help!

Re: Variation Photos

The photos for the variation come from the 10 photo slots on your listing.

That's where they link to. It's the only place they link to.

Re: Variation Photos

Since you’re limited to 10 pictures total, you will need to have some pictures do double-duty if you want to link to the specific color variations. So when shooting your different angles, close-ups, styled pictures with props etc., use a different color variation for each shot, so you can link to them.

The only other option is to have one picture that shows some kind of labelled colour chart with all your options, and then link all of the options to that one chart. In other words, don’t skip linking to the chart, otherwise the picture on the order will default to be the first thumbnail, which may or may not be what the customer ordered (leaving you open to “not as described” cases).

Re: Variation Photos

When I have too many pictures for the number of image slots I have, I make a chart showing small pictures of each product color on one picture and be sure to label them so they know which color is which. With 10 colors, I might split that into two color charts so the individual pics aren't too tiny, then link the appropriate color chart to each variation that is on that chart.

However, there is something called information overload. Sometimes if the customer has too many choices, they can't make up their mind, so they don't buy anything at all. I think it is better to limit color choices to 3 to 5.
