Uploading photos painfully SLOW

Jump to solution

For the past few weeks I’ve noticed uploading photos for new listings to be painfully slow. It seems like it’s just photos where this is happening. I’m able to go to all other areas of dashboard and my shop with reasonable ease. I’m not using the app and am on ipad. It’s gotten so I dread listing new items as it takes foreverIs anyone else experiencing similar?

I had this problem in my California mountain home, when my internet was provided by Frontier.  That company prioritizes downloads rather than uploads, so uploading photos was painfully slow.  I had to resize photos to about 1200 on the shortest side, instead of the 2000 that Etsy now recommends.  I recently moved and got whole-house WiFi from Spectrum, and WOW, what a difference!  Photos load in about 5 seconds instead of 5 minutes.  I hope you can get this issue sorted, because I know how frustrating the wait time is.

I was experiencing this issue for months.  I'd click upload and then go and make a cup of tea.

I am incredibly un-techy and one day my husband took charge and changed me from Ethernet to wifi (I think!!) and problem solved.

Not much of a help to you but I'd wrongly assumed it was an Etsy issue.

I hope you're able to sort it

I only have this problem when using the new listing page, if I switch to the old version (link at the top of the listing page) the photos upload just fine.

Thank you @HallelujahTree and @SmallDevotionsSupply . I don’t use the new listings format because I prefer the old one. I usually putter around the kitchen, wash dishes and yes, make a cup of tea while I wait and wait and wait.

Depends on location, wifi and type of building if there will be issues. It's wise to scope out your ISP to see if they are throttling.

I use the new format.  No issues in loading photos.  I no longer care for the old format.  Haven't used it in months.

It is also possible that your photos are too small or too large.  That could be another thing to check.

I uploaded over 50 pictures today using the app, it was normal. Etsy isn't as fast as eBay (app), but I didn't notice any difference in terms of speed.

Yes, it takes forever for Etsy to get a photo uploaded. I'm looking at a Draft that I started/created from my Samsung S22 (where all my photos are) and only 1 photo made it...One Photo. It happens regularly. Time - Time Is Money - My Money. I'm more than just a little frustrated by now. Tia.
