As a seller, I GET THIS EMAIL SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK (and a message on my dashboard in "red"). In order to get paid (as a seller) Etsy keeps asking me to input my credit card information, which I do, then as soon as I do it, I enroll in automatic billing as I always have. A few days pass, and I get the same email again, asking me to do it again. It's like Etsy isn't saving my credit card information, but only for a few days.
Any other Seller else with this issue? If so, did you get it fixed?
Try using a different credit card. Not a debit card! And I believe prepaid Visa and MasterCard are not accepted. Or at least cause problems.
Once you get by with the new credit card number working, and don’t get the repeat message about a problem, go back and put in your original card and see if that will take again or if it throws an error.
Hi @luxcrafter
Thank you, I did about about a month ago and that solved the problem! Instead of my MasterCard Debit with my bank, I put in a credit card.
The only thing I'm not going to do is change it back to the debit, I don't want to temp breaking the system again
Are you sure it’s from Etsy?
Yes, I never click on email, and pretty good and determining spoofs/spam/scams. I go directly to my Etsy account and sure enough, I need to update my card.
@SweetVintageDesignCo If you buy on Etsy and then delete your buying card, it also gets deleted from your shop. They're connected. Do you have only one card on file and delete it after every purchase?
I have only one ID, I use my seller ID to also buy on Etsy, so I only have 1 card on file. I'm reaching out to support to find out why several times a week I'm being asked to update my credit card. Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I got the same email twice this week. No fix that I know of, just hope I don't get suspended for "not having a card on file" or something.
I just discovered I am being charged $2.50 every time for a pre-authorization check. It's supposed to roll off but my bank is putting it through as a charge.
Have you had any resolution with this problem?
I get the message every week as well. I go in and update the card and I get a big red message that says unable to update card at this try again later- which I do and get the same message. I’ve been dealing with this for 3-4 months- I lost count. I’ve contacted Etsy by phone and email and no one can help. I tried purchasing something from my account and putting in a new credit card and that didn’t work either. After I put the new card (as default) in another message says that they can’t verify my identity???? WTH? They have been holding my shop sales funds for months now and there is nothing I can do to get this straightened out.
I have resolved this issue on my own. I added a NON DEBIT Visa credit card instead of my debit card. I don't know if that fixed it, but haven't received any more notices. Good luck to you.
You can't purchase from your own account.
@SweetVintageDesignCo We have never been able to use a debit card that is strictly a debit card. We always had to use a debit card with credit card logo.

I have the same problem every week for the last half year now. My Etsy worked fine for 6 years or something. Now, i'm not getting paid unless i renew my billing information every week or after every sale. It accepts my credit card (master card) info, pays my money and next sale... BAM, the same mail. It's just a very annoying bug in their system and it's really frustrating that such a big company can't solve their stuff. I only have a debit card and mastercard and i don't want to get a new card especially for Etsy. It would just have the same result anyways. Is there no solution for this? At all?
@JDesignsArtshop @ I am the seller who posted this question, and I resolved the issue by adding in an actual credit card and removed my MasterCard DEBIT card associated with my bank.
@JDesignsArtshop If your debit card has a credit card logo then you can use it on Etsy.
If the debit card is a reloadable card you cannot use it on Etsy as primary card. You have to have a cc card or debit card with logo.
@JDesignsArtshop Are you looking for a resolution? If you think it is a glitch, you should begin a new post in the technical issue section. You're in an old post that is 4 months old.
@SugarTaffySoap I added a resolution that finally solved my issue , I tagged him with it and hope he sees it.
@ArtDollsbyJD I do realize and aware of that, my "debit card" can be used as "Credit" MasterCard through my bank. I did state "MasterCard" DEBIT so there is no confusion. As I've stated in my original post, this was my only way I paid my seller fees, but obviously there is a glitch because I'm not the only one happening to. Why all of a sudden for 11 years I can pay using my Mastercard DEBIT (through my checking account) and then this happens. To end this headache, I switched to a full on credit card and it's been fine for about a couple of months now.
@ArtDollsbyJD again, we ARE using debit cards (not reloadable) with MasterCard logo, and through my bank. I have been paying my fees for over 10 years this way, then several months ago, I got the problem, it's pretty obvious a glitch of some sort.
You can add a prepaid card to your account from the billing setup page if you already added a credit or debit card to your account. A non- reloadable prepaid card can’t be your only or primary payment card, but you can always pay your bill manually with a non-reloadable prepaid card.
