Hi. I am looking for some uptodate advice re adding my UTR to my account. I have received an email saying they will suspend my account if I do not add my VAT ID. I don't have one or need one yet. I have tried to add my UTR but it will not accept it. Has anyone got any advice ? Thanks

Etsy only accepts VAT numbers.
Etsy calculates the VAT threshold from January to December, instead of what the UK law is, which is a rolling 12 month period.
Etsy will warn you about adding a VAT number 3 times, first at half the required VAT threshold (85K) being 42,500k.
If you know you're no where near 85k, nor will be by the end of the year, ignore it.
They can't suspend you when you are in fact below the VAT threshold.
Most people have had this email yesterday or today. This is all linked to how Etsy reports back to HMRC to make sure that people are doing a tax return on their businesses.
It used to be VAT registration but you can now add your UTR (the code on your self employed tax portal). You don’t have to do it now as Etsy will let you know when you have to add it but you can do it now to get it done and put the way. It’s not simple to find (is it ever!!) but if you follow the link and click legal and tax info there is a drop down list. Just select your country and then add the details. UK has a few different options but sole traders will normally be a UTR number.
Jen, your post has been so helpful. I managed to get my UTR on. Thanks everso.
I’ve tried to add my UTR number but it won’t accept it. I’m way below VAT registration being needed. Any advice gratefully received. I’m scared I of being shut down over this
The UTR goes in the Additional Tax Information. I learned this the other day from a similar post.
